Thanks for the tip. We managed to find a copy. A small article but nice to know that our baby hasn't been completely forgotten by the motoring press.

The car pictured is the UK press car which was present at our Devon meet a few years back. It's changed hands a few times since then but I believe the current owner does visit this site.

The article is mostly accurate and fair, and the prices reflect the current market spread.

Did you notice they got the production dates wrong? They listed 93-96, when the actuality is '91-'96 I would imagine.

Officially I think it went from 91 to 97 but I guess the 97 sold versions were old 96 stock...

I'm not actually sure when the line finished. It could be '96 or '97.

I bet Paddles knows.

Hiya,

I think they are basing the dates on UK type approved models not on the factory world run.

I have been told the car was only ever imported in the 26 month window after 1st release, although some cars were registered upto 97.
Its believed the last ever was registered on an S plate in 98.

That second statement is hard to understand Darren.

They arrived in the UK early '92. 26 months after that would make it late '94 for the last of the UK imports by that reckoning. Yet some of the UK cars such as Arthur's '96 Polo Green, they are the OBD 11 cars with the one body colour. These cars only came on the world market in '95.

On the other hand, it could explain how a lot of '95 and '96 UK cars are the Claret and Black, and other pre- '94 build colours. They must have sat around in the system forever before finding a buyer.

Hiya Joe,

The guy worked for a subsiduary of the Subaru importers & remembers the last cars being a struggle to get dealers to take even with bonuses and free extended stocking. Some of the fully loaded cars in 94 were still around in 96 and were basically sold to dealers as a basic car to move them on, IE rear spoilers at nearly £900! were free.

I'm assuming they didnt import any cars for 6 months after the initial release so we would be looking at early 95 being the last batch arriving. This would pretty much fit with last models?
You have to remember there was still an import limit on the number of Japanese cars allowed to be imported by the manufacturers so the volume at the time would have been taken up with more mainstream models and the SVX at the time was a bit of a white elephant plus it never really had model years like other vehicles.

I am hoping to pick his brains at length in the near future and gain some more insight into the goings on and info he has, he is actually a fan of the SVX and owned one back in 98 until it was written off for "minor" damage by the other persons insurers.

Someone asked if the Autoexpress car was in the forum? I own 'PDH', its the same one as featured in the 'better than an XJS' autocar article. It seems she was the press release car at the time. She is currently sitting here doing nothing......and has a few maladies......anyone fancy parting with £600 for her?
