Fuel leak. Help!!
I have a small fuel drip on the bottom of the three metal fuel lines at the connection going into the firewall. Is it safe and possible( I am not very mechanical) to disconnect the top two lines(I can get to the clamp on them to get to the bottom line to tighten the clamp? I can move the hose in and out so I am sure it is just loose. It just started as I was putting the colored hose covers on my engine components and I was moving the hoses apart to get to each one and noticed it was loose and soon after that I noticed the leak. Let me know if it is safe to do that. It shouldnt have much pressure there if the car is off, right??. Any advise would be helpful as I want to do it after I get off tonight. Thanks. Bill

fuel leak
Pardon my lack of mechanical ability but the lines are rubber not metal and it is held by a hose clamp . Thanks. Bill

Fuel will spray out unless you depressurize the system.
To depressurize lift out the back seat bottom, unplug the fuel pump, then start the car and let it run out of gas. This will take most of the pressure out of the lines. There will still be a little but it shouldn't spray you in the eyeball.

Rubber Fuel Hose Size(leak under vehicle)
Can anyone tell me the size of the rubber fuel hose coupling the metal fuel lines from the tank to the engine?
Have a leak on the fuel line underneath the body, on line coming from the tank, located right past the driver's seat.. Appears to be from one of two rubber hoses connecting the metal lines, Mine are covered with a rubber or tar compound that comes off on your hand and precludes determining what's wrong. Tried to see, but got gasoline in my eye (not much room to manuver or get out of the way). Leaks only when running now, used to leak when shut off (till it nearly all fuel leaked out) so assume it's the supply side (vice return). Is this a common problem, or inherited from it's corrosive Chicago roads environment? |
