Seal valve cover leak, cheap

Found this the other day while looking around:

O.K., maybe I'm not the first to find this but what the hey, it bears repeating. I'd much rather pay $48 vs. $79 at the dealer.

Now if anyone can turn me on to some engine mounts that are more reasonably priced, drop me a line.

If you're somewhat handy you can have polyurethane motor mounts for around $30.

Good success on motor mounts has been had using
part # 8644K24
Flexible Urethane Casting Compound 1 Pound Liquid, 60 Shore A

If you're real handy at making molds and such suspension bushings can be cast using
8644K11
Flexible Urethane Casting Compound 1 Pound Liquid, 80 Shore A
or
8644K18
Flexible Urethane Casting Compound 1 Pound Liquid, 94 Shore A

You can pretty much replace any rubber bushing/mount with urethane.....engine, tranny, suspension....and so on.

Beav, how did the o-ring under the bolt head work out for the valve cover leak? Did that do the trick or not?

RE: mounts. I'm handy enough that I could make them from cookie dough (and I know a few cooks that make biscuits hard enough) but my preference is OE. The OE mounts are hydraulic, they have diminutive shocks absorbers built inside. When the OE mounts develop a leak they settle a tad and begin riding on their motion restrictor tabs. Makes for a bit of vibration at idle and while driving.

RE: 'the o-ring trick'. I had various levels of success. Most worked but I had a couple that consistently ended up shifting and spitting part of the o-ring out. Now I have a couple spark plug well seals leaking so I'll have to replace them anyway. Even though I think forty some dollars is still a tad high it is almost half of what our historical price has been.

I still have my new set of valve cover gaskets in the basement. I didn't get to replace them this summer. I spent too many Fridays at Hooters. We got a real nice one in Wayne. Not a big turn over in the help department or hooters.

I wish they made these gaskets out of Viton.

I have needed to replace my gaskets for some time now but have been putting up with it (the oil leaks) because the cost of oil was SO much less than the cost of the gaskets.....now what excuse can I can up with??

Did you order the gaskets from these guys? I did, just got them. Sent a note to their customer service, only came with 10 grommets and none of the interior gaskets (around the spark plugs). Will post back their response to see how it goes.

Wondering if that's why so cheap... or if I just got package from a guy having a bad day at work.
