Quick Question for Car know-it-alls
My friend drives a Chevy Blazer and when he's driving on normal asphalt roads, his tires make a bit of a medium/high pitched wine. THe noise is irritating to say the least, but what would cause this road noise and is it a problem?

Tires. If the noise changes depending on the road surface, it's caused by tires. If you can find a perfectly smooth, freshly paved section of road, the sound should become very quiet. The only way to change the sound is to buy good tires. Touring tires, or luxury tires are best, and price will be an object. Tire companies spend a lot of time and money figuring out how to get good traction AND a quiet ride. It's not easy to achieve, so if it's worth getting new tires, do your research first.

I must concur with Uber. If it's a Blazer, it most likely has off-road tires. Off road tires are notorious for road noise. Like he said, the only fix is new tires, and even then off-road tires get only so quiet. Don't think it's really a question for know-it-alls, though.

Well you didn't say its a Jeep which whine like that in the driveline so I'd also say tires. If the tires weren't like that 1000 miles ago then it might be something else like a worn bearing but it also could be that the tires have reached a wear point that they have become louder. Might want to see if it is aligned and balanced properly as well if the tires are in good shape. If not do that when your friend replaces the tires.
