Back from AutoFest

Bad news here at the office, so I have little time. I just wanted to say a few things:

It was great seeing Randy and Shari again. And I was also thrilled to meet Steve and Bill and their wives.

Fun show. Some domestic-classic guys had no respect whatsoever for anyone at the show with a '90s Japanese car, but overall people had a lot of questions. My favorite was from a lady, I'm guessing in her 60s:

'Who makes the Subaru?'

I got my highest efficiency from the SVX yet, 31.4mpg, on the way down. The trick seems to be to set the cruise at 73-74 and just leave it for 220mi.

It took me 7 hours to get down, 6 to get back. On the way back I just followed whoever was going the fastest, and one of them happened to be a black C5 with a plate that read 'PAGAN.' I followed him at speeds up to 120mph for some time. I did the first 300mi in 3.5 hours, which is an average speed of 85.7mph. That is way too damned fast for an *average*. I don't condone this, and I don't want ANYONE else to do it.

Uhhmmm...that's it...

Sure, you don't condone it - but you'd do it again, right? Sounds like fun to me!

You must have been pretty anxious to get back to Mrs. Pockets.

I really wish I hadn't done it in the first place, and if I do it again, it won't be for a long, long time.

As for being anxious to get home, I left a LOT later than I said I was going to, and I couldn't actually tell her that until I got into Ohio (my cell network apparently doesn't extend farther than that), so I was in a hurry, yes.

A friend of mine drafted a few fast cars on his way to Indy this weekend. He and his wife were in their Toyota Celica GT Convertible -- they were flying low in the exhaust trail of three (yes, three) Ferrari 308's.

I wasn't drafting. I was pretty far back, actually. I was surprised how well the SVX kept up with the C5. There was one hill where he punched it and left me behind a little, but other than that either he was low on nerves or the SVX is just that slippery.
