Talking It's BAAAAACK!!!!

Just what I needed after the last year or so.

FYI, she's a 96 LSi... beautifully kept but with a few niggles I need to sort out. Yes, I own her. The reason I was on the road last weekend and meeting up with Aredubjay was because I was driving her home from New Jersey.

I'll be getting a new webpage up on my site real soon now where I can better document my work so far on the car...

Yes... I'm totally psyched right now

Nice color combination! Other than the tires, looks like she's in good shape!

your carfax report is wrong. It says the car is a 1997. The car doesnt have the 1997 grille. You also state the car is a 1996. Anybody else notice this?
-Bryan
PS: Looks real nice though

What colour combination? Mind you, I have a coal fired computer.

Thumper,

Did you buy the car from an SVXer with a Yahoo screen name of "MoreIBNR" ?

I also wish you had contacted me, I would have liked to meet up.

I sware to god, I have seen that SVX before at a meet somewhere. polo green with polished silver rims.

Nice find. This would be a second green svx labeled wrong by carfax. Like we all said before, 97s are the remaining 96s with a new grill and new tyres so they probably said after a certain vin on 96s, someone decided we are going to call them 97s.

Lar, I thought John(MoreIBNR) owned a 92, right?

Hi Larry, Gary's (MoreINBR) car was a 92 not a 96.
Hi Tumper Thanks for the Legacy car fax. Do you know it's still in your locker? Tell us about the SVX. PLEASE I am always intrigued when a person drives a long way to get a SVX.

Larry: Yep... I would've liked to have hooked up too... but unfortunately I was on a time crunch. My flight landed in Newark at 1:50pm, I didn't get out of the airport until after 2... then we had hotel reservations in Pittsburgh so I was determined to make it there before midnight. Also wanted to hit the road at 8am again to make sure we could hook up with 'dub! As a result, it was pretty tight scheduling but we made it (despite deciding that Pittsburgh had the worst street planning in the continental US)

I'll be posting "the pickup story" soon... suffice to say it was a great trip with Ray "Halistan" Allen in the co-pilot's seat. I've just got to get my arse down to write it first after I've worked out the critical niggles with the car (oil change Monday night, new accessory belt last night (Tuesday), and my new brake pads apparently arrived today so they'll be getting installed tonight).

As far as the tires... well they're actually in decent shape. Finally figured out that it's not the tires but a front wheel bearing gone bad. How did I figure that out? Rotated the tires... noise stayed at the front. Not a big deal... but it'll have to wait until closer to the end of the year before I can get it done. The tires ARE different sizes though... different makes and wear... but I measured them the other night and they're well within 1/4 inch difference (talk about ironic!). I will probably replace them later in the year.

As regards perhaps seeing the car at a meet... possibly... but unlikely unless it was pre-2000. The owner I bought it from was young and knew very little about the SVX specifically... and didn't know about the club (at least not that he mentioned). However, it was clear that he'd really done his damndest to take care of the car as best he could. I suspect part of his reason for getting rid of it was simply because it had surpassed his ability to troubleshoot the niggling problems any more.

So as of now I have the following items outstanding;

1. Wheel Bearing
2. Tires
3. Clean up the stereo install (which is an aftermarket, and reasonably well installed)
4. Idler/Tensioner pulley on P/S accessory belt (position bolt seems damaged and I don't really trust it too much... idler pulley itself seems in great shape)
5. Brakes (in-stock... to be installed)
6. Sand and touch-up an area with slight surface rust under the hood
7. Enjoy driving her

I initially thought I would have to go the O-Ring fix route since my power steering was rough and tight... but it turned out to be the belt.

I've already done the following;

1. Removed belly-pan for easier access while working on her (will reinstall before the white stuff appears)
2. Oil change
3. Accessory Belt (P/S)
4. Enjoy driving her (hmm... sounds like I've heard that before)

The car's great though... I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Oh yeah... no I didn't. I did start to pursue that one, but I came across this deal for the '96 and just couldn't pass it up!
