Question BRAKE LINES - braided, SS, or ?

My brakes have never been very "rigid". Could the brake lines be important to replace or change to aftermarket products, like braided or stainless steel brake lines?

I'd really like to know, because I'm doing my "whole front end" this weekend and I'd like to do it ONCE!>>Brake caliper rebuild, new pads, turned rotors, new bearings, new axles (1 boot broke).

APPRECIATE YOUR IDEAS!

Replace the flexible line between the inner wheel well and the caliper with stainless steel (braided) - you'll see a definite improvement in pedal feel. I've done all four corners on mine. You'll probably want to flush the brake fluid while you've got things apart - especially if it has never been done to the car in the past.

Question SS Brake Lines, ETC.

Please tell me more (where?, how much?) about SS brake lines (and more>>like your special rotors and calipers). Do you have or have you heard of any great strut/spring upgrades? THANKS! Jim

James,

First off, sorry about my PM mailbox being full...
Now on to your questions
1. RaceConcepts offers a great deal on slotted rotors, pads, and ss brake lines. I've used their hardware on all four corners and it's great stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have their phone number with me here at work, but if you do a search of this site on "RaceConcepts" you should find it.
2. My Mohrds-special calipers are called that just because Doug Mohr (Mohrds) of this site (okay, physically he's out in Wisconsin) rebuilt and powdercoated all four of them. I'm not sure whether he's still doing it, but they are great! He ships them to you and all you have to do is ship him your old calipers when you take them off.

All in all, this has resulted in the best "pseudo-stock" brake system you can get. The next step in braking would be to go with the "big-brake" system Dayle is offering.

Struts/Springs question -- While Porter is working on the definitive Koni/Coil-over set up, I'm not sure when it will actually be available and what the cost will be. Near term, Mychailo has come up with a great spring offer that lowers the car (5/8 or 1 inch) and stiffens the ride up to the limit (with safety margin) that the stock struts will take. Do a search on springs and you should find his current thread on his springs. I'm hoping my set will be showing in the next week or two. I'm installing them with new stock struts.

Hope this helps.
-Bill

How much did Doug charge to powder coat the calipers? I just replaced my pads and rotors last night, but the calipers needed to be painted like a flat black or something b/c they look kinda nasty compared to the new rotors.

Doug charged me $245 which included shipping them to me. You'll obviously need to talk to him directly to see what his current price is - he cut me some slack in that he didn't include his normal core charge that he refunds when he receives your old calipers.
IMHO the calipers are worth every last nickel - Doug does outstanding work - the calipers look good and work like new!

go to an auto parts store and get a can of 'Caliper Lacquer' for like $8. i did mine to look like Porsche Big Reds , but there are different colors to choose from. just be sure to do a good job cleaning them before painting. mine have been painted for around 6 months(?) and look great!

Question SS BRAKE LINES

Bill - RaceConcepts does not sell SS lines for the SVX at this time.

P.S. Where else can I get them?

Jim,
Did you call and talk to Wood directly? I just bought my rear ss lines from him less than 2 months ago.
