White & silver are pretty easy...However, the black looks very good too, and that's NOT easy - be proud.

OK, mine is all black and in MUCH worse shape, wouldn't want to drop by and show me all you've learned by any chance?

its not rocket science.......but you'll be sore for days

wash it, dry it, put on paintcleaner, remove paintcleaner, put on glaze, remove glaze, put on wax, remove wax, go have a painkiller and a beer.

What I did was:

-Dawn wash - Dawn is harsher then normal car washes, and gets all the junk off (not recommended for every week use - 1oz Dawn : 3 gallons of water)

- Mothers Clay Bar w/ Mothers Showtime as lube - pulls all the crap out of the clear coat

- Turtle Wax car wash - Wash off all the clay residue (more residue = dirtier paint)

- 3M Swirl-Mark Remover - Used as a polisher/cleaner

- Mothers Sealer/Glaze - Protectant

- IBIZ Carnauba Wax - Wax...hehe

There's a ton more products out there...but i was on a tight budget with money and time, so i had to go with what was readily available.

Check out www.autopia.org for any info you could possibly want to know.

Here's what I do:

1. Wash car
2. Use cleaner wax
3. Use Zymol.

It looks great, except for the paint chips.

My wife must be right - my sense of humor is sadly lacking (even with use of smiley faces, etc.)....

I've been an Autopia member for awhile now but don't post much there, I may still be in the single digits. I was hoping to get the labor for free (not really, just joking, but see my first sentence as to my "joke-ability").

BTW, I don't currently use wax and probably won't go back there. I much prefer polymer sealants as they stand up to the intense semi-tropical sun and salt-laden sea breeze around me.

Did I mention I live a barrier island strip of land only 4 blocks wide at my house? Sitting here at my desk I can hear the surf crash through the open window, very soothing.

Actually, the salt problem is very real. Between home/work, and the drive between, my car never sees more than 10 feet above sea level except on weekend drives. The salt is pervasive - most people (those who care) rinse their car off every day - even covering doesn't really help.

I only got about 3 weeks of beading protection from Zymol. I'm currently using Liquid Glass as it's cheap and available at lots of places locally (plus no silicons and no abrasives). That gets me 8 to 14 months protection depending on which car & how much time it spends in the sun vice garage.

For those of you looking for easy protection (FOR YOUR CAR!) I recommend RAIN X car wash. It does the same thing on paint that the regular product does on glass. Wash the car (OUT OF THE SUN), then dry it with a SYNTHETIC chamois (or "drying towel"). If you do only that...you will still be protected from salt, and dirt will just wipe off. You will have to rewash about once a week to keep it strong...but that's easier than polishing and glazing all the time.

I use Turtle Wax's FINISH 2001 polish on my GTP cause wax just melts right off the paint. I polish maybe every three months and then use a commercial glaze after the polish. That gives the best results I have seen so far. It lasts too. Unfortunately not everyone can get the glaze (connections) and it costs $35 a bottle. OUCH. As an alternative, I would recommend Eagle One's Wipe and Shine (the NO WAX kind) you have to reapply every two weeks...but it's really easy (like applying windex) and it works pretty darn good. Much cheaper too!
