Exclamation 5 speed Conversion

Hey All,

I guess the KC site is not coming back anytime soon, here I am. Anyway, I was wondering in any of you know if a 98 WRX tranny will fit the SVX. I have the cash, and desire to make a 5spd SVX. I know this guy who owns a tranny shop, and I offered for him to keep my auto, which he could sell, in exchange for all labor, and shop supplies. All parts are my cost. Any thoughts?? I am taking the car this friday to get the technical stuff started. I figured, why add a turbo, nos, or a supercharger, when adding a 5spd would probably knock 1sec, of my 0-60 times, and who knows in the quarter mile. Plus, when cold, my tranny sounds like a spray paint can being shaken side to side, and I'm assuming that is NOT good

Go for it. I tossed around that idea. But with a Turbo the Stock clutch won't hold the power and a aftermarket clutch might shatter the tranny to pieces.
Most likely a Na engine will not tear up trannies or clutches.

just remember how much weight your SVX is compare to WRX and how much power it will kick out. I don't want you to get into trouble at the end.

(you don't own a Super by any chance?)As for your 5-speed swap, make sure you get a matching rear diff. with you 5-Speed(will probally be lower gears than your original SVX Diff's.) I'm in the process of this swap right now, but I'm going the cheap route(Via a XT-6 Donor car) but think it'll hold up as good as the 2 autos my car has went thru.
My thoughts, good luck

Exclamation Bell housing

I've got a 2.2EJ in the floor next to it and it apears to be the bell housing(which my understanding was that the EJ 2.7 in the XT-6 was the first engine with this bell housing) also the first to use the 4EAT auto.
It also utilizes a cable for the clutch (easier to hook up, and I've had my share or hyd. problems on other makes of clutch systems).
I've been putting off droping the tranny as I will no dought run into problem that I haven't forseen.
Will keep you posted on my endevor.

Exclamation Doh! you were right!

The XT-6 Tranny IS the old bell housing! I thought I had everything I needed so I dropped my auto tranny out and started pulling measurements, and sure enough it won't fit, but I've got a newer 5-speed located that I'll get as soon as I round up some funds (anybody want to buy an XT-6 5-speed w/diff lock & a matching rear diff 3:90's??) well I'm back in a holding pattern again hopfully soon.

Hey,

Sorry for the delay, I'm always very busy, but here goes on the 5 spd. conversion. To stay with the all-wheel drive, he said a 2.5 RS tranny should work, and that it is similar to the WRX tranny. He's not 100% sure if the new WRX tranny will work, but he's checking. He said about 2100 for the tranny conversion, including custom fabricating some parts(driveshaft, mounts, clutch, ect).

As soon as he calls me back, within 2 weeks, I'll post all part #'s for Subbie parts, and he said he could, after it all is working and tested, he'll make the custom parts needed and sell them as a kit.

More to Come!!

Clark
