ATF filter before or after stock cooler
Is the external ATF filter supposed to be installed after or before the oem atf cooler?
which pipe from the radiator flows the atf to the tranny and from the tranny, driver side or passengers side?

My filter lines run from the tranny to the filter, then to the passenger side of the radiator, then from the driver's side back to the tranny, So I would assume the passenger side is the inlet, but I can't guarantee it. Mine was installed at the dealer during the campaign.

according to the subaru svx service manual it should be the other way around...,
Im beginning to wonder if everyones filter is installed that way. Maybe its a typo of the manual? or maybe it REALLY doesnt matter which which side of the atf cooler the the inlet and outlet should go..

Perhaps the configuration of lines for the campaign filter ended up changing the flow to allow for proper line bends, or perhaps Subaru purposly engineed the campaign to reverse the flow to allow a continuous backflush of the potentially clogged stock filter.
They may have planned for a few dealerships to shortcut the backflush during the campaign and figured this was a good solution. We'ed need to see a SVX that wasn't brought in for the campaign filter to prove whether it was a manual typo or planned. Doug

glad tahts cleared up
Whew, glad to know Im not the only one with that configuration.
I was worried that I'd have a dead tranny on my hands soon, because of having the filter on after the cooler. (whats the pt if your cooler gets clogged b4 it even reaches the filter?!) I guess I'll maked a little admendment in my manual [atf cooler inlet - passenger side] to [atf cooler outlet - driverside] [atf cooler outlet - driverside] to [atf cooler inlet - passenger side]
