ha ha! oh sh|t!

Beav-

I was gonna PM this to you, but I think I should probably let everyone here know how grateful I am. You probably didn't save my life, but you certianly saved me the money I would have spent replacing a bent hub and broken arm when my vehicle came crashing down on me. I was planning to go to my house tomorrow evening to try again, but I'll be heading there tonight to make sure that nothing happens to the car while I'm not there (knock on wood) (not the table that the turntable is sitting on with a record going over the air) (damnit, i made it skip.. oh well, better that i got a good knock in). A million thank yous. Without the people on this board I would have spent a lot more money on my car, and I would probably be missing some fingers

Yep. Local auto parts store. It wasn't very good quality (the splitter). Sears might have one. Might be more expensive, but it would have a lifetime guarantee.

BTW, I hope you relocated the jackstand as Beav pointed out. You're lucky you didn't get hurt trying to get those bolts out.

I have uploaded few more of my mechanical pictures, including a few that show what you are doing, only my bad axle was the right side.

There is a high res pic(900kb) of the split ball joint, done with a pickle fork, and the bolt that retains the ball joint was removed from the hub first. no other bolts were removed to get the axle out, other than the axle bolt under the wheel, and the center CV knuckle pin was also tapped out, sorry, no picture of that.

mechanical pics link

there are a few other that my help, but the ball joint, and the expossed bearing at around 900kb each.

alright, i managed to get the axle out last night. i feel like a "compleat" idiot for having the car supported by the suspension arm, but now i know better.

in order to remove the two bolts from the lower arm, i found it necessary to crank the steering wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. i didn't need to remove the sway bar at all, and the axle came right out.

hopefully it'll go back in with minimal fuss, but we'll see. thanks again everyone who helped

if you need any help

Adam (and anyone else),
I can take pictures of bits and pieces for you if you end up needing help with anything. I'm very familliar with the CV axle procedure so I'd be able to mark up the pictures and make notes for you too. Just thought I'd offer my help to anyone who is having mech issues.
Gotta love this NH winter.

I'll see what I can do for ya. I just found out over the past weekend that my green SVX needs head gaskets. I'll be putting a lot of effort into that in the comming days but I'll try to get it all done up for ya.
