Trailer Link Bushing Removal?
Is there a trailing link bushing where the trailing link mounts to the rear housing? I've removed the rear housing and it appears as if the housing itself has the bushing pressed in.
Has anyone removed this bushing with success? thanks |

What's the plan after you remove it?

Re: Trailer Link Bushing Removal?
Install a new one. In the midst of a complete rear suspension overhaul. I'll be powdercoating the suspension parts that I can. I want to confirm whether or not a rubber bushing is pressed into the housing. If there is a bushing in there it won't last long at 400+ degrees during the powdercoating process.

Re: Trailer Link Bushing Removal?
There are rubber bushings on both sides of the trailing link. The bushings are not in the link itself, though. The bushings are rubber that are bonded to an outer metal sleeve. To press in a new oem bushing, you will have to remove the sleeve as well as the rubber. When I did my bushings the trailing link bushing rubber in the rear knuckle did not want to separate from the sleeve.

Re: Trailer Link Bushing Removal?
Do you have the part number for the bushing pressed into the rear housing (hub). If not, was it difficult to get from the dealer?
This answers my OP, and creates a new question. If I read your post correctly, the trailing arm link that attaches to the body of the vehicle does NOT have a bushing pressed into the link itself? Rather the bushing is pressed into the mounting bracket attached to the frame of the vehicle? |

Re: Trailer Link Bushing Removal?
Looks like my memory was mistaken. The trailing link has the bushing pressed into the body side of the link. I did not use OEM bushings to put it back together, so I can't answer that. I did what another member here did and used a kit from a WRX to replace all of the OEM bushings with poly bushings. I did have to modify the big lateral link bushing and crush tube for the lateral link bushing to work just as he did.
Here's the link to what he and I did, and a few pictures. Link.
