A reminder of the day when a (fill in the blank) head ripped the stock audio system out of my new 1984 Subaru turbo coupe (my very 1st Subby) must have been worth at least 2 dubbies in the day, that's Portland OR for ya, huge homeless numbers in the downtown blocks even back then, now a security unit is manditory to cross the street. OWS, doing great in river city on the Willamette.

Thanks again Keith. $30, that would be $20 more than my "add on" AT&T cell costs me monthly.....

Conn SVX, what is your current Garmin model number & screen size? TIA

nope, you'd still have to pay the $10 add-on, and then the $30 data plan.

If you already have a smart phone with data plan, it's a great option.

It is... If you can do the ittle-bitty screen. There is also an advantage for me in driving with both hands on the wheel.

I may end up "biting the bullet" with Verizon, like we Verizon customers don't already, but not for the gps benefit. I already have puters. lap tops desk tops.

Not necessarily - i can download maps on WiFi and pre-cache them on my old Droid phone and use it as a nav with no data connection. I havent really tried it, not sure how "large" a map you can do, but there are apps that will let you do large maps, if you have an old smartphone laying around.

Re: SVX & gps today, 4,22 20121

I use a Garmin GPSMAP 276c. http://www8.garmin.com/products/gpsmap276c/
It is slow, it is old, it is not voice activated or touch screen...
It can take up to 30mins to find 3 satellites....But it works.

I got it free from my girlfriends dad when he sold his boat.
On the plus side, if I ever wanted to sail my SVX its got ocean maps
