Re: alternator broke down!!

After having fun for 2 days with the repaired svx suddenly at night there was a terrible noise from under the car and the feeling that a wheel would come off

Slowly to the nearest gasstation and got nearly stuck in the soft sidebanks of the road (fortunately 4WD) I have the car towed back to my garage. Wheels were good only closer inspection revealed a broken rubber manchet around the knuckle of the driveshaft left front (hope I described well enough) So probably the knuckle is toast
I will hear today

I will hear today from him

By the way, is a knuckle replacable or do I need a complete driveshaft (with both knuckles)

Re: alternator broke down!!

I assume you are talking about the U-joints? They are replaceable and any driveshaft type shop should be able to install new ones and balance the shaft for you.

Re: alternator broke down!!

I think he's talking about the front left c/v joint (?)

The axle is replaceable pretty cheap here in the states (~$80), so that's what's typically done. I believe they are serviceable however.

Yep, you are right... I misread it completely. I guess that happens at 4am

The last person from Europe paid for a member here to buy a new one here and ship it to him as the options for replacements seems limited overseas. If you can't find a shop that can service the axle, this might be the best and cheapest route for you to choose.

Re: alternator broke down!!

Thanks guys

I really meant the u-joints, I have ordered a front axle assembly at OT
At least I hope so, because I cannot fill in the form because it has no way to put in addresses abroad. I have sent an Email

After the successfull change of alternator I still have a furiously blinking powerlight at startup. I have a smallcar shiftkit installed. At speeds of 50 mls and slowly speeding up there is a shaking in the trans, as if it doesnt know what gear it should take . At harder acceleration it works fine

I think I will check the connections of the shiftkit first

"small car shift kit" is a transmission killer.

FedEx says $193.00 for shipping a 15#, 33" X 5" X 5" box to Holland.
USPS says $75.00, but 6-14 days AFTER Mondays holliday.
