Hopefully, Earl found some time in his busy schedule to update the file, he may have pulled it down for that reason. I hope renewed interest will result in more data for his database, that we can understand the models better.

Rather than have updated pdfs throughout the long registration-year threads, it would be great to continually update the link in the first post only, making the pdf link very easy to find

Earl, what are you up to?

He should have it. I got the red "Registed" badge at the right of my header.

I'll get the strut info for you next time I pop the hood.

Incidentally, Why don't you have the red "Registered" badge?

Great, when you get the info,
please post it on my 'How many models' thread, using the template.

Why no badge, I'm not sure, I sent info, no badge. Earl, if you see this, please PM me so we can sort this out, and I can get a Registration badge

Re: US & CA VIN Numbers

I moved this into its own thread because it is long and I don't want it to cover the registration info. I fixed the badges. The problem that we have is that the US and CA models have moved between borders which also confuses things. The tag info would be the only way to know for sure - I think.

Earl,
Nicely done

Another EASY WAY TO TELL the difference between the markets is to look at the speedo. The US speedo outer scale goes to 160 miles, the Canadian speedo outer scale goes to 260 kilometers. So, that's the reason that mileage has been reported in miles [US market] or kilometers [Canadian market]

It would be awesome to have an updated revised spread sheet with 'something like' the last four numbers in the VIN sequence, the MY letter, the market, mileage, and info from the strut tower; which is engine model, trans model, trim code, etc. We can categorize the trim codes as to sunroof, seat material, etc. We need more information to understand models, trim codes, as well as updates to specs, etc.

Has total Canadian sales volume ever been reported and recorded year by year? Adding those numbers to known US numbers should give us an idea of the total MY VIN sequence range for what I'm calling the 'NORTH AMERICAN-spec' model, on a year by year basis.

The 'North American' model may include another market, but I don't know where. The basic spec of this model would include LHD with the transfer clutch transmission.

Re: US & CA VIN Numbers

From my model thread:

Let's think of the APPLIED MODEL CODE, AMC, as the genetic code

Here is what we have so far for WORLD-MARKET DNA:

CXW*2*E: RHD; Japan
CXW*E*R,S: LHD; Gulf region [GCC]
CXW*K*E: RHD; United Kingdom
CXW*L*E: LHD; EURO [France, Swiss, Paraguay, Levant (Lebanon)]
CXW*U*E: RHD; [AU, NZ]
CXW*Y*E: LHD; North America [US, CDN]

Also from the thread:

OKAY, check it out, we have enough information to begin to decode the APPLIED MODEL,

All SVX registration lists should be categorized by APPLIED MODEL YEAR:
A, B, C, D, E, F.

CX@ A, 1992
CX@ B, 1993
CX@ C, 1994
CX@ D, 1995
CX@ E, 1996
CX@ F, 1997

Further, the following conclusions seem evident:

CXD- AWD-4WS
CXW- AWD
CXV- FWD

So, our lists should list the VIN sequence according to model.
For example, AMC- CX*A[92]Y[North America]

The VIN sequence for applied model code CX*A[92]Y[NA]** should provide the total MY production for 1992MY North American [Canada/US] production

Re: US & CA VIN Numbers

From my talking with Danny (silverspear) I remember him mentioning that his car is the same as a US market car. Now, I don't remember if he was saying that it is the same type of options, or actually a US car that was brought to that market. I just remember that I believe it was different from the Gulf region cars. My memory is a little bit fuzzy though.

No, not all all, Dan's car didn't have coated cats, egr, or even O2 sensors

Okay, back in post #7, I calculated 8738 US market '92s
Earl's registration list goes from 041 to 9680, total of 9639.

Taking Earl's number for Canadian production quoted above,
let's say 900 of those were '92 models.

8738 plus 900 is 9638

Suddenly, the registration list makes perfectly good sense
