EGR necessary?
Do we really need an EGR valve on the car?
or can it be removed and plugged?

Re: EGR necessary?
as long as you don`t need to pass emissions, go ahead and plug it. Also to keep the egr sensor code from popping up, all the ecu needs is a reading that the sensor is in place unless it is a california car.

Re: EGR necessary?
The stage 2 should not have an effect on emissions but blocking the EGR will. They won't notice that it's blocked but your readings may not be within specs. With a '92 do you still have to do smog tests in Ontario?

Re: EGR necessary?
my car's a 94, parts car is 92, and yes we need to do an emissions test every 2 years kinda gay. supposedly it was supposed to be for any car under 14years old but they cut it off at anything 87 and under doesnt need it.

Re: EGR necessary?
exhaust gas in the intake tract is NOT really ideal for HP production as you dilute the intake charge. which means there is less vol available for air/fuel.
they do it to help reduce NOx.

Re: EGR necessary?
^^^What he said. For what it's worth, we swapped a JDM EJ25 into a coworkers Outback after his lunched it's head gaskets. The JDM motor has no EGR system. The car still passed it's e-test with flying colours.

Re: EGR necessary?
Don't forget your car has 260K plus so may be starting to produce a few more noxious fumes than a JDM engine which typically has around 60K.
