5 speed question
so i bought a tranny (05 impreza 5 speed) to start to get stuff together for my swap but it doesn't have stub axles sticking out of the trans. where the heck do they come from?

your Automatic. Just get a pair of new axles seals for the AT so you can install them into the 5mt

ok well that makes me feel better. I guess I'll just add that to the list of all the other isht.
oh well this should help someone else some day with a SEARCH!

hi you see in 03 for the forester subaru changed the shafts ,and diffs
the DOJ or inner joint has the shaft machined as part of it you have some work to do ,ill do a little on my side for you and see if you can swap the joints from a new style to the svx axle i hope this helps |

p/s the stub shaft seals from a auto diff wont work ,the new ones along with the carrier bearing holders have been changed also

I have done it. it works. The inner diameter of the seals seat is identical. The only change is that you can change the seal without removing the side plates like you did before. The auto stubs fit with auto seals plain and simple

it would be great to be able to update to the new style with better boots and trunion bearing instead of ball bearing and taking out the movment of the doj on the stub shaft ,ill have to try to put one on one of my axles

What, do you think Subaru knows how to build 5 speeds that don't work like crap? Just be happy you have one of the best shifting real SVXs on the planet and actually change your fluids in it properly, you'll get another 200k out of it! No need to join the hack'em up b/c I'm too cheap to keep my tranny running so I downgrade to a sloppy 5 speed brothers.
