Re: New member, please answer my Q's...

At 120K the timing belt is over due, if it has not been done. Do the water pump and the front end oil seals at the same time. It is a good idea to put your car info in your profile, then when you ask a Question we can find the details that help with the diagnoses. Model, FWD, 120k, etc. Harvey.

Re: New member, please answer my Q's...
A dealer had the car before the current guy, used it as his daily driver so I am under the assumption that he had it taken care of between 80-100K.
I don't like assuming so I was going to get it changed also along with the water pump and the front oil seals? What is the work involved for the front oil seals? Also, are you sure there isn't an external under the battery in my 1994? From what I read, I thought it was? I'm under the impression that they retrofitted or recalled the cars so that they had the filter under the battery. |

Re: New member, please answer my Q's...
There isn't so you can get a permacool spin on remote oil filter from www.summitracing.com which is what I have. Same thing as subarus but much bigger.

From Wiki. What years received the external filter? EDIT: And where is a good spot to put it in terms of the transmission fluid flow? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Last edited by liamrh; 12-08-2008 at 09:00 PM. |

Re: New member, please answer my Q's...
Hmm, I was thinking about that big open spot on the right, but I am not that familiar with the layout of the engine.
Did you plumb that right out of the cooler-->filter-->trans? Is it to much of a restriction in the fluid flow? |

Re: New member, please answer my Q's...
The one opening is routed right off the trans lines and the other is off the stock cooler in the radiator. Their isn't enough restrictions to make a diffenance so you'll be fine. Search the threads, there is a picture diagram of how it's routed.

Re: New member, please answer my Q's...
Does anyone have a preference on the producer of 80w90?
EDIT: I did search, and I want to make sure everyone knows that I do employ it after having harassed noobs on other forums. Alternatively, all I really found was contentious threads. Durablend? Last edited by liamrh; 12-08-2008 at 10:37 PM. |

The other good place to look for info is the How-To Documents. This will give you pictures as well. Good luck.

Make sure the flush the cooler in the radiator like someone posted earlier. It is a bit restrictive for my taste even when perfectly clean. The Subaru dealer sells cans of cooler flush too. Since it sounds like you are looking to do upgrades I might recomend that you put a nice plate and fin cooler in the drivers fender instead with an inline thermostat in the line before it controling a relay controling a fan mounted on the cooler, with a hole cut in bottom of the fender liner to let air in and a hole cut in the top of the fender liner to let air out. That set up is a lot less restrictive, warms up quickly, cools better, and doesn't heat soak the radiator with the transmission heat. |

Re: New member, please answer my Q's...
hey, i just clicked and looked that the transmisison cooler install doc in the how to. The diagram for the hookup of the lines is backwards for an svx. the outlet on a 4eat is the front line.
If I might also suggest... 1)I think it's worth recognizing that if a fan, relay, and thermostat are used the oe cooler in the radiator can be bypassed entirely. 2)a much smaller hole in the bottom of the fender liner with a matching exit hole above the cooler works better(at least with a fan it does). |

Re: New member, please answer my Q's...
See that is part of it, where I live it is cold as **** most of the time(9 months)
However, where would I get a decent thermostat that opens at 140F? I'm assuming that would be about the temp to open it up or 150? Thought it would lock at 140? Once again, gear oil for the diff guys? |
