Going to gather my thoughts, and figure out what needs done.

Ok. So many of you have seen my multiple threads on my engine oil leaks. Well here comes another one. I need to really figure out what all is leaking, and figure out what can be fixed. So today, I pressure washed the bottom of my engine. Mistake. Now its smoking even more, and I can actually watch the oil dripping out of some places. Ill start with the front of the engine. The center timing belt cover is just nasty. The front is caked with crap, and the bottom, is an oily mess. Theres oil dripping off every inch of the bottom of the center belt cover. I took off the side covers, to see if the plugs behind them were leaking, and they are, but not horrible. I dont know what to really think of the rest of the car... Ive got the best pics I can get here, and hopefully someone can answer my question of... what is leaking so bad? If my teal doesnt sell, Im almost tempted to have the engine pulled out of it and put into this car. Theres so much oil leaking, and my 92 hardly leaks at all I hope one of you can help me out...

Cam seals? I know my car looked like that underneath before OT did my Cam seals and Valve covers. Attempt to remove the plastic timing covers and source the oil leak behind those.

You are part way there. You will want to get the rest of that crusty stuff off so when work is done, it will be cleaner and easyer to work on.

Re: Going to gather my thoughts, and figure out what needs done.

Your valve cover gaskets are shot. My car was just that oily and what not and those covers are the kicker for oil leakage. You definitely have some cam seal issues as well. They need to be replaced too. Your rear main is probably also leaking, but it doesn't generally leak enough to cause smoking from the engine bay.

Re: Going to gather my thoughts, and figure out what needs done.

I'd start with the valve covers and cam/crank/oil pump seals. The valve cover leaks tend to run down the frame and blow back on the transmission, which makes it hard to tell if the rear main is leaking, I would do the other seals and clean the engine up real good with some engine degreaser and see if it still gets nasty back there or not. Could also be the rear access cover, although I am not sure if the EG33 has those or not but they are a common leak on EJ motors.

Re: Going to gather my thoughts, and figure out what needs done.

Alright so um, this is going to come out as a bit of a shock

As much as I hate to do this, Im going to let my dream go... After owning three of these cars, and having no good luck with any of them, I think it might be time, to move on. I need to think about the future, and really just how well a 14 year old car is going to hold up. Especially one that is hard to get parts for, and is expensive to fix. I need to move on to something that is more fuel efficient, and doesnt burn premium fuel. I need something that when I go out in the morning, I know everything is going to be fine.

It is with a sad feeling to let everyone know, Ive just sold both of my SVX's. Im now the owner of a 2009 Ford Focus SES. Its got every option possible. And is actually really nice. Leather, moonroof, heated seats, MANUAL transmission, the list goes on and on. I wish it wouldnt have came to this, but I guess I did what needed to be done. I cant afford something that just keeps giving me issues.

Ill post more on the subject later. By no means will I be leaving here, I still love the SVX. I just dont like the experience that Ive had with them

Re: Going to gather my thoughts, and figure out what needs done.

Dennis,

You should have kept one of the SVXs and saved up to fix it. Sorry you had to do it. Good luck with the Focus. Hate to say it, but an SVX is not a for a teenager, who has limited finances. My 96 polo leaked everywhere, I never drove it, until I had the engine resealed. Good luck and hope you can another svx in a few years when your more settled financially.

I understand your frustration, but one day you may regret your decision.

Re: Going to gather my thoughts, and figure out what needs done.

I know that one day Ill regret the decision. But I just dont have the means to let the car sit until I can afford to fix the issues it had. I need somethig that will be a good daily driver, and not cost me up the rear for gas. We now actually have 5 Focuses, or Foci, whatever, lol. The one I got is really nice. I couldnt ask for any other option. It has everything I would want in a car. I agree, the SVX is not for a teenager. Espicially owning two of them

But Ill be sticking around. Just because I dont own one anymore, doesnt mean I have to leave. Ill still go to some of the meets (and carpool, haha)

Your close enough to catch a ride from me for any meets.

Re: Going to gather my thoughts, and figure out what needs done.

I'm confused... You did not have the means to get it fixed but instead rather go in debt a couple thousand? Would it have not been easier to get a loan from your bank to get said repairs done? But to each their own. Hope you enjoy your focus =D.

Here are the pics of the new car. It really is fully loaded. You cant get any more options for this car. It feels good to be back in a stick shift.
