Removing Window Tint
So I finally got around to removing the cracked and bubbling window tinting on my rear window. It's been like this since I bought it, but I knew it was going to be such a hassle to remove it that I only removed the tinting on the side windows and left the back.
Now that I have started it I see why I was so hesitant to try and remove it. Being as cracked and brittle as it is, the tint will only come off in small pieces. The defroster lines don't help. I have been very careful around them however. After working on it off and on for two day I now have most of the rear window cleared of tint. The only part remaining is the very top where it has all those little black dots. This part is even harder to clean off though as all those little dots make the tint break off into tiny little pieces about this big < >. I can't seem to remove it faster than this and can't scraped it as this will remove the little dots. Any advice?

Re: Removing Window Tint
Get a spray bottle and mix warm water with amonnia. Spray on and let it soak for 10 minutes or so, then wipe with a cotton fiber cloth. It will come off much easier. Cover the rear deck with a garbage bag, so you dont get it all wet with the spray. Its not an easy job, or fun, but when its done, your like wow, I have a clean clear window. I did it on my wrecked 96 when I got it, cause the tint was so bad you could barely see on a rainy foggy night.

Re: Removing Window Tint
Gah, I need to do this to my 92 as well.... I dont want to do it, as I know it will just SUCK. But its so hard to see out that window.. Once you let it soak in the mixture, what is the best way to start removing the tint?

Re: Removing Window Tint
Once it soaks, I used a plastic putty knife to scrape it off. It helps to do it on a warm sunny day so the sun helps to heat and soften the tint.

Re: Removing Window Tint
I was thinking of having it in our garage, and setting up a heat dish heater pointing towards the window, as a warm, sunny day, wont come again in WA for about 7 months, LOL
