Ford dropped the ball in not tooling up to have it produced in the USA. Unfortunately, it will be too expensive to import. Diesel is the answer though, not the hybrids.

Gene you can't be serious? You can only get something link 20 gallons of diesel out of a barrel of oil (which in turn we sell much of it to Europe) who in turn sends us their gasoline. The cost of diesel would sky rocket if we started driving more of 'em to save 20-25%, even now the math doesn't add up with diesel trading at a buck more than gas. Then when you factor the extra cost of the diesel engine into the mix and I couldn't imagine breathing in NY or LA with a diesel haze like the European cities do.

It just doesn't work out math wise just as most hybrids don't work out when you do the math. If Honda could make a 55mpg car in the 80s it can be done today. They just need to build with mpg as a goal not as an afterthought on the overweight, overpowered cars of today.

Then again, I'm still waiting for GW to tell me where I can pick up that mass market hydrogen car he promised I could buy in 2010. In the meantime I'd settle for the Fiesta which should net around 40mpg. I won't hold my breath for either though

They can although if you take all the farm land currently used today and used it for vegie oil production you wouldn't be able to power 1/2 of the diesel vehicles on the road today. That would make for a hungry population.

So Lee show me this biodiesel applications from fish guts, algae, prairie grass and cellulosic fiber from waste woods on a scale large enough to produce enough diesel to power every car, every bus, every train, every piece of farm equipment, every truck, every plane and heat 20% of our homes. Oh wait. THERE ISN'T ONE.

I prefer not to talk butt or a$$, I prefer reality. I guess you prefer the word BUT. Going large scale diesel transportation is just another smoke screen brough to you by the Rushpublicans and Democraps just like electric cars, just like the hybrid, just like hydrogen, just like a hovercraft, just like solar cars and E-85. The technology isn't there, may never be there but it is definately worth researching. Last I heard even with algae which grows at a producable rate it takes 4-7 times (depending on your source) the energy to take cellulosic fuel out then what you get in return.

Only a dumb a$$ would advocate moving toward something full scale that can't be sustained with current technology. Biodiesel is just another waste of time pursuit that until a breakthrough in the production is made. Best case from everything I've read is 20 years away for the tech. then building an infastrucuture to support it.

I'd rather talk out of my a$$ then be an dumb a$$ who believes they'll be driving a hovercraft around next week just as you seem to believe. Where are your facts? Show me where I can get cellulosic biofuel today, right now for a comparable price to the heating oil that is coming this afternoon. If you can't then you can shove your trees, algae and fish guts right where they belong, up that pipe dream of a solution that has as much chance of panning out as the fusion car.

I sure hope you ran out when this brilliant plan of yours came to you on the toilet and bought yourself 2 diesels and a couple grease car kits. Lord knows the price of a diesel will skyrocket when everybody else catches on to your idea.

The technology is here today, right now to build safe affordable 50-60mpg non-hybrid gasoline cars. Wait, that technology was here in the 80s! You seem to need some help finding your way back to ground and let the researchers do their research for the future rather than wasting money on pipe dreams.

Still looking for where I need to put my deposit down for GWs hyrdrogen car he promised me I'd be buying in 2010 during his first SOU speech. While you're high as a kite maybe you can see the dealership for me.
