You are dealing with marketing speak here. They will tell you what you might like to hear. Whatever, as they say, turns you on.

When the Network guys met the Japanese design team in Reading I think, the Japanese guys said it meant Subaru Vehicle 10. The X was the Roman numeral.

You could believe that or not as you wish, but that's what they said.

The Subaru Vehicle X seems to be backed up by the brochure I have. I'll scan it and put it in my locker later.
