Outer Banks, North Carolina

Has anyone been to Outer Banks, North Carolina? I am looking for a place to vacation with my family along with another friend and her family. I have been to Myrtle Beach for many years and would like to try something new. Do we have svxers that have been there or reside there?

I went there every year for like 6 years over Turkey Day week... damn I miss that place.

We would rent a whole house and have a big family reunion every Thanksgiving... what a blast!

We are planning on renting a house as well. We hope to dampen the cost a bit.

We always stayed in Waves, or Salvo...

But then, we had like 4 families with us there, and a house so big well... it was big. And waterfront too.

Its an awesome place. Virginia Beach is fun too. Luckily we live close to many fun places like that!

I prefer more of the pacific coast myself. The kids could not handle such a journey even. They are spoiled with having a tv and game boys for such a trip. My father has two condos in Myrtle Beach. I have gone there for many years.

I am terribly missing the ocean front view these days. We will have a total of 10 people with us. Most of that crowd will be six children.

The areas that we have found are in Buxton, Frisco, and a few others like Kitty Dunes. They all seem to be real nice. I just want the most bang for my small buck. I desire on the beach or just water front. We plan on just absorbing the ocean and sand. My friend is from Oregon.

I go diving off the NC coast form Ft. Bragg-

If you are looking for warm water and "Sugar Sand" beaches, go south (Wilmington) if you want the colder water and pebble beaches, go north (Nags Head).

The Gulf stream comes up the coast about 1/2 to 3/4 of the state in the summer then heads out to the UK. Makes for an interesting coast.

I'd recommend Carolina Beach if your looking for something a little quieter. The beaches at both ends you can drive your 4x4 vehicle on. And if your looking for entertainment, Wilmington is about 30 minutes away, and there is a small museum and fort you can tour there.

Thanks everyone for your input. The hard thing is deciding on when to go as well as where. I prefer one and they prefer another. I aim for the cheaper vacation.

Has anyone stayed in Condo's in Outer Banks? How are they?
