possible reasons for no 3rd & 4th gear?

so awhile ago i lost 3rd and 4th.. i really didn't give it a second thought.. i just assumed i needed to rebuild or replace the transmission..

is the problem blown gears, or could it be something like a solenoid...?

anyone?

I think the no 3rd or 4th problem is usually caused by the "high clutch" not functioning properly, or not at all.

What the **** (grrrrrrrr) heck, is a high clutch? Is it hard to change.

Did I mention I want to keep the old tranny Adam?

Here's the control patterns for shifting the 4EAT:

Gear1 Solenoid1=on Solenoid2=on
Gear2 Solenoid1=off Solenoid2=on
Gear3 Solenoid1=off Solenoid2=off
Gear4 Solenoid1=on Solenoid2=off

If 3rd and 4th don't work, the one thing they have in common is solenoid 2 is off. Meaning that the solenoid isn't working or that the clutch it's operating has failed. Check your trouble codes.

...well i suppose for the steal you're giving me, i might as well let you hang onto it....

plus i don't want it rolling around the trunk of the WRX on the way home
