ProTorque Torque Converter
***Already did a search BTW***
Can anyone share their experience with having a high stall ProTorque torque converter installed on their SVX? Pros! Cons! Recommended!?! It is the only thing that seems left for me to do to get the 1/4 mile time I want (Yes, I know it's not a drag car). Haven't been back to the track for quite some time now. Have been enjoying just driving it around. The idea of having a ProTorque torque converter installed will not leave my head though. So, I will be working overtime this week to make this a reality at some point. Thanks for any input!

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
consider that it will increase the amount of heat generated within the trans. You're probably better off with one of LAN's tweaked TCUs or Harvey's QT boxes.

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
Considering the 4.44 trans, I would venutre to say it would not be worthwhile. With the stock 3.545 gearing it may be worth it though

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
Never having driven a Subie with a high stall converter, I can't speak to any personal experience there, but with old school cars a high stall TC makes street driveability a royal PITA. Pulling away from a light..rev, rev, rev some more, and then the car lunges forward...Not a whole pile of fun day to day.

Hey Tom, You know how I am when I get my mind on something. Would you be willing to be my 'master installer' if/when I get this done? I think you may be pleasantly surprised. If you don't mind, just report the before and after in a new thread if/when I get it done.....if you could. I will put up the thread. Your opinion means a lot to a lot of folks here. I can talk to ProTorque on the specifics though. I do value the opinions and guidance from folks here though. Was wondering how many have actually done it though on an SVX and their thoughts. Also Tom.....why do you say with the 4.44's it would not be worthwhile? I did notice that with the intake, off idle 'oomph' did seem to slow down a bit. I tried to help this with the undersized pulley but I am running 19" wheels (taller gear ratio) as well. So the cams, taller sidewall and intake may be fighting with my off idle torque somewhat. Just tossing around some ideas but if no-one has really done this or dabbled in this area......it makes me REALLY want to do it. BTW: Is our torque converter at all similar to the 2.5RS, Legacy and/or the WRX torque converters?

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
Wow! So there isn't anyone on the site who has installed a ProTorque high stall torque converter on their SVX?
I thought I read PoweredX2 (Hope that's right) had a higher stall speed torque converter on his SVX but not necessarily a Protorque. ***Checking*** Ah...here is it-->http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...rque+converter Quote:
I noticed that PoweredX2 mentioned to Chike to install a Durite Converter here-->http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...ghlight=DURITE and here-->http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...ghlight=DURITE PoweredX2 has given some advice and recommendation on this and no-one else has tried it out? Well...not that it matters but here is their website: http://www.dunriteconverters.com/httpdocs/index.html I'm currently on night shift all week (6pm-6am). I will try to give them a call and see what's up.

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
I have a 3k stall speed converter from level10 performance trasmissions in NJ, along with their Stage 3 tranny and valve body..
Doesn't seem to make any difference worth the price... Still only runs a 16.3 @ 86mph

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
I have a high stall converter in my car from level 10 as well. It makes the car feel faster and it pulls harder under light to medium throttle but the full throttle response is the same as with stock. With a proper valve body mod, torque converter, and a power mode mod to the TCU the SVX actually has a remarkably different feel around town. If I was gonna pick some mod to do as far as the trans goes, I would have a valve body mod done before I modded the converter. If you do, remember you have to be careful with modifying the converter as it can cause other problems due to the heat increase generated and it is also possible to have an effect on pressure, though I don't think this would cause you a problem. Get that heat out of the fluid if you're gonna have a high stall, with a high flow cooler. A high stall converter will really cook a system that has a restrictive cooler

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
Thanks guys for the posts above.

Very, VERY interesting! So with the high stall torque converter, did you brake torque your SVX to build up the stall speed? It did get to 3000rpm right? What was your 60ft time as compared to when you did the 1/4 mile runs before the mod? I was looking to really improve the 60ft time, which would improve the 1/4 mile. The trap speed I understand may be a little lower but overall time should improve....at least 3/10th of a second. Good info so far. BTW: Did you change anything else on the SVX after the torque converter mod, that could have slowed the car down (Ex: Larger diameter wheels)?

Re: ProTorque Torque Converter
Yes, I held the TC right up on the stall at 3k RPM. 60ft times were between 2.478 and 2.537 on 4 runs. The only things done to the car besides the tranny are NGK Laser Iridiums, K&n Filter, and 1yr old Hankooks tires on stock rims.
I raced with only about 4 Gallons of gas in the car to reduce the weight but have enough to run for a while. I even snuck 1 gallon of 112 Octance race fuel. I dont think it did anything other than cost me $8.50 lol Oh, I also have an 80 durometer urethane filled tranny mount
