Window Sleeve Lock Regulator?

Just browsing through the How-To documents this morning looking for something else and saw one on the window "sleeve lock regulator". A well written how-to, but it didn't mention why someone would need to replace this. Anyone know?

I think you need to replace this when your window stop going up or down. I hear that you usally hear a "pop" when rolling your window up or down and it gets stuck in that position. It hasn't happened to me "yet" but I have the part just in case it does. It must be one of those things that happens a lot or there wouldn't be a "how-to" about it

That was my guess, but part of the how-to made it sound like you were moving the window up and down with the switch to get it in position. I think I just misunderstood.

Yea. There is a picture of it somewhere on this site. It is part of the "big metal thigamajig" that moves the glass up and down in the door
