Speed check......

I hope b3lha's story is true, and I know this one is.

Travelling to Dublin on the N4 dual carriageway, and it has one section where the limit is too low, 40 mph, and police are forever pulling people on it.
I had overtaken a few cars and was behind a motorcycle courier, when I spotted the parked camera van.

Brought my speed down to within the limit, and expected the motorcyle to do the same. But no way Jose!

He drops a couple of gears and accelerates madly from the overtaking lane to the van. As he gets near, he gives the camera the middle finger salute three times!!!

Well, at first, I though, "This guy's crazy", till it hit me. The front end of motorcycles have no registration plate. He was triggering the radar, sound in the knowledge that they would not have a record of his number.

He also made my day.

Joe

Defeating the cameras

Another ploy that is used here. The fixed cameras have a post for the camera, another for the flash, and a loop in the road to sense when the offending car is in focus.
It did not take the truckers, that run at night, long to realise that if they ran on the wrong side of the road, the camera did not work.

So at night, it is normal to see a 60tonn B double truck doing 100k, in a 60k zone, comming down the wrong side of the road, towards you.

Harvey.

way to stick it to the man.

i tried something like that once. it involved a base ball bat and the unmakre patrol car of a local jerk. needless to say, i bought the state some new windows and a hole lot of body work.

my "man sticking" days have ended, but now and again i muster a gentle nudge.

That's an interesting system Harvey.

Any idea why they did it that way?

Here, it relies on the radar to determine in advance you are going too fast, and the one pole camera and box is timed to flash and photograph as you pass it. The evidence provided by the radar is supported by how fast you pass a series of measured lines on the road, two flash photographs over a set known time interval.

Why your guys would use a road trigger is a mystery to me. Trying to save on flash and film??

Joe

Knowing where all the cameras are, I routinely am doing 10-20kph over the limit and as I approach the camera nail the brakes to slow to exactly the speed limit then speed as I leave the intersection.

I also believe the cameras don't go off unless we're doing at least 13kph over the limit.

Don't know why Joe, we are down under you know. They have changed it now, with pick-up loops on the other side of the road, to stop the crazies.
It now looks like they have gone to digital cameras. As they have tared over the loops?
The digital units would allow them to take shots of the front of the car now, that was not allowed, useing flash.
You can still sneak up from behind with a spray can, and colour the camera window, gone.

Harvey.
ps Why can't I get the smiles to appear in the post?

Dunno about the smilies Harvey. They work for me. However, all day I was hearing people discuss the "new smilies". Mine were still the standard yellow same old same old. But now this evening, they are multicoloured. Some of the functions are only being rectified bits at a time. Chris had problems with carrying over some legacy data due to php problems.

You should go into User cp, click on Edit Options, then scroll down to Thread Display Options and in the Visible Post Elements tick the three boxes. This should ensure that your images work, maybe that will get your smilies happy again.

Joe
