Caliper Pin Lubrication
Does anyone know the proper lubricant to use on the sliding pin surface inside the rubber boots on the caliper?
I was using a silcone grease as recommended by the auto parts store. However this cakes up and gets hard under high heat conditions. Well any way that's what I found on the frozen calipers I just replaced. |

Then they either sold you the wrong type of silicone grease or you had a lot of sludge in there to begin with. Permatex makes a green silicone grease that is specifically made for your application. Look here: http://www.permatex.com/products/pro...&item_no=20355
BTW, this stuff works great on any automotive synthetic rubber. It's what I keep on my work cart - I use it on almost everything.

I bought some Silglide from the parts store, but now I'm thinking that's what the red stuff in the seal kit was for. Take the caliper apart and clean it if you can, don't just mix the new stuff in with the old grease and dirt.

I just use generic 'brake caliper grease.' I was sick of buying it in the little throw-away tubes, so I just bought a big tub of it last year.

I use the red grease packs that come with the OEM caliper rebuilding kit. It gives the rubber boots a great shine.
