How to remove the rear view mirror.
Hi all
Does anyone know how to remove the grey plastic bit on the large shaft of the rear view mirror? It looks like it hides the bolts of the long shaft or something. I'm trying to hardwire a radar detector and don't want to rip the dash apart to come up from underneath. Will come down from the dome lights instead, but can't get a wire in there! Matt

If I recall, you just yank on the mirror. It's made to break-away in event of an accident. Once it is down you'll see what you have to take apart to re-attach it.

It may be breakaway, but there are four screws under the cover that hold it into the ceiling. I wouldn't just yank it off unless you plan on replacing it. Get a thin-bladed screwdriver or knife to pry the plastic cover off.

I had to replace my rearview mirror after it fell off one time and if I remember correctly the plastic piece either slides or pops off then you can get to the screw underneath.

Done. Prise the plastic bit off with a thin blade, then you can get to the screws. Cheers all.

Certainly seems to be, picking up neon signs left right and center! (Haven't tuned it for NZ yet!).Maybe it's only the US that has that coating?

Hey man - just checked out your car picture, your mags are on the wrong sides - down by valve stems on the rims you will see the letter "L" = fit to LHS (the RHS does not have any letter) - makes for better cooling to brakes & less possibility to warp those brake discs........that's what happened to mine.

GPS & window coating
Floatingkiwi - had to use an external GPS antenna to get my Navman iCN635 to work in the car (attached antenna to inside trunk lid) - fitted unit in the dash pod area (out of sight). Some NZ new cars came in with the mettalic window coating film.

Nice leather seats! What product do you use on the fake wood trim? Looks nice.
Mine is a jap import, so I suspect no film. Also it has been detecting all the neon signs! Matt

Re: How to remove the rear view mirror.
I picked up a gray auto dimming mirror for $3 yesterday at pick-a-part and am trying to install it, but can't seem to get the plastic piece covering the screws to pop off. Have managed to slip a thin putty knife all the way around, but so far can't get it loose.
Any helpful hints..?? |
