I had a Forester before I got my legacy and if anything need some get up and go it's the Forester. 210 Hp and 235 tq are good numbers for that car and lets not forget its already turbo...wich means improving those numbers shouldn't present a problem.

If it was just a bit bigger on the inside I'd be tempted to trade back. I honestly feel like I have more usable space in the Legacy (sedan) than I did with the Forester, back seet was too small and the storage wasn't great unless you were willing to block your back window completely.

Yeah I don't get that. Dodge's SRT4 puts out more hp and torque from a smaller turbo'd engine.

Get back to work Subaru. :P

urgh, usually i don't like to get in the middle of this type of discussions... but comparing a forester to a dodge srt4 (i'm assuming is the performance version of the neon) is just not fair.... <apologies in advance if there's a suv called srt4 as well...>

but anyways, i drove a forester during college, and although i found it peppy and fun to drive, i agree that more hp is a good thing

What isn't there to get one is a Sport utility wagon and the other was shooting (and got) the title for the fastest new car for under 20K.
The WRX puts out more HP and TQ than the dodge with an even smaller engine than the SRT-4 (well the advertised by manufacturer numbers are higher)

No it doesn't. The SRT4 engine destroys the WRX engine.

Anyway.. enough of this talk. Back to the forester topic.

the SRT4 is a cheaply put together car as reflected in the pricetag. the turbo and manifold are one piece (to save cost), and the exhaust is already muffler-less - can't really upgrade that. the Forester could easily be modified for more power, i doubt the SRT4 will be able to be modded without a lot of grief using that turbo set-up.
have you seen what the JDM STi's 2.0L engine puts out - Subaru DID their homework, but they're not about to make the Forester the fastest car they sell.

Of c'mon I said the "advertised" numbers were better, I am aware of the truth.

Actually, it sorta has a muffler. What they did was make the rear section of hte exhaust system do all these crazy bends to reduce noise while not having much backpressure. Pretty cool stuff.

well the unfortunate bit about the whole srt-4/wrx thing is that a stock srt-4 probably WILL beat a stock wrx in a stoplight race (providing the dodge driver knows how to work a clutch properly), but i'm banking on a wrx holding a distinct advantage against the dodge in a road race.. we'll see though..

anyway, i first saw an ad for the turbo forester in a foreign car magazine.. i thought it was a great idea. i hope it winds up stateside.. i'm curious to see how the interior fits me.. i could sure use the space, especially the big box in the rear.. i'll see how it compares to my mom's legacy wagon

I kinda doubt that.... the SRT4 has pretty stiff suspension... whereas the WRX has suspension more suited to 'rally racing', being floaty and having lots of travel. The SRT4 on the other hand, is completley the opposite. Stiffer, harder, and tighter.

I like the WRX a lot. I like the SRT4 a lot. They're completely different from each other. Which would I rather have??? Eh. Neither. I'd rather have my SVX.

heh, good call.. i'd start another "dream garage" thread, but it's been done to death..

i suppose i'll suspend judgement until i read a comparison.. i can see the cover of Automobile Magazine now... "WRX FIGHTER!!" "new SRT-4 does the unthinkable!!"

i suppose we'll see.. i just like horizontal motors

-adam

and btw, i'm not a hater.. i've read a number of reviews on the srt4.. if the time comes to buy a new car and all i can scrape up is 20 grand, i'm thinking pretty seriously about the dodge (now where the hell did i put that fireproof suit?)

No, they don't. Land Rover built a concept that they called the 'SVX.' If a car based on that concept does replace the Defender, I doubt very much that they'll call it the SVX.

Actually, MOPAR NOW, a magazine devoted to newer Mopars did exactly such a comparison, but I didn't read it yet since I don't have a subscription.

And I'm pretty sure they're a bit biased.
