I would not go too far . I drove mine to the dealer about 4 miles and it was ok. Steers like a truck even worse . Is it leaking so bad that it wont even run 5 min on a full PS. defiantly the tube has a hole in it ,

Well it ended up being one of the rubber return hoses above the rack at the rear of the engine on the passenger side.

Cam came over and spotted some leakage around one of the clamps and graciously removed the hose for me.

It wasn't a sure deal, but I went and got some replacement hose at the local auto parts store and clamped it on and NO LEAK!

Amazing how a hose that doesn't even have a hole in it, just worn out at the clamping point after 20 years, could drain the whole steering system in a matter of 3 minutes!

Drove several miles and everything's holding, that had to be the problem. Thanks again to Cam for coming over and giving at look with a fresh set of (more experienced) eyes!

I had to replace that hose on my project car. It puts up with a lot of heat in that location and will become hard and brittle. I wish I found this thread earlier, I may have saved you some time.
