Gauge Cluster swap

Here's the how-to and photos to replace individual gauges in the gauge cluster.

First remove the cluster (that's pretty straight forward)
Unclip and remove the clear plastic cover (red arrows show tabs to unclip) pic 1+2
Remove screws in pic 5 and then unclip tabs (pic 3+4) and remove black cover

Be mindful of the small filament still holding them together (green arrow)
Remove the 4 screws shown in red (speedometer) and the gauge can be pulled out the front of the cluster. This can be done with any of the gauges. There is nothing to unplug as the screws are what conducts the signals to the gauges.

Now the gauge out of the cluster. As you can see, this works with any of the gauges:

Really? I assumed it would be a PITA and have avoided replacing my "D" light. How easy is it?

Re: Gauge Cluster swap

There is a separate how-to containing instructions on removing the trim around the instrument cluster.

The bulbs can be replaced without taking the gauge cluster apart. The gear selections are the 7 black twist knobs on the back center (Photo 5). I have plenty of bulbs left over from the old cluster if you need one.

Yeah but you still need to take the cluster out. I found the writeup. Seems like it could take awhile. I'm guessing "D" and "3" are the ones that burn out. If I get brave and decide to give this a shot, I'll PM you about the bulbs.

Easy, you take it apart to this stage:

(top pic) only without taking out the gauge. There is a little clear plastic panel that has the PRND321 printed on it that just pops right off.

Re: Gauge Cluster swap

Have you tried taking the speedometer apart further? My speedo is reading slow with an accurate odometer, and I am wondering if the speedo can be repaired.

Re: Gauge Cluster swap

I have all white gauges. Did he ( PO) change them? OR did the 1994 come with white faces?

Re: Gauge Cluster swap

PO changed them. PlanetSVX.com (AKA Dayle, AKA Motorsport Warehouse in AZ) used to (maybe they still do) sell white face gauges. They call them EURO gauges. I think the gauge cluster is still basically the same though.

Is it consistent or speed dependent? (eg. always 5mph or 10%)

If it's consistent you could move the needle. If not then make sure the speedometer is screwed in tight (4 screws).

On the warning light bar aross the bottom of the cluster, I noticed there is a green Econ light next to the Power green light. I have never seen this light up on my car. What gives???
