Re: wheel bearing failure
So you were towing the car with the axles removed?
Yes that would explain it...

Re: wheel bearing failure
On a related note, if you roll the car with the lug nuts removed, the wheels may fall off.

Re: wheel bearing failure
For the sarcastic asses on here, the wheels were bolted on. my car Has 266,xxx miles on it, and that car NEVER made any sort or roaring noises. I'll have more pics of what happened soon.

It would seem the proverbial old dogs have been shown a new trick.
So towing the car on the ground with the axles removed may cause the bearings to slip out?

Re: wheel bearing failure
Sorry for showing my sarcasm, I know the wheels were bolted on. And if we would have been told in the beginning that you towed the car without the axles in place, we would have immediately known that the lack of axles was the problem and would have avoided all the questions about previous noises and other components.
The bearings were possibly good and silent before this. But the axle is what holds them together. At this point you can probably pull them back together and makes sure the outer dust seal is in place. But I see new front bearings in your near future.

Re: wheel bearing failure
Yes, no axles is what the problem was, not the wheel bearings, the axles ARE what holds the bearings together, so the bears Were fine....until you towed it with no axles in them, now they are surely bad.....

Re: wheel bearing failure
not the best idea, but in a pinch i have used the axle shaft and nut as a press to pull the bearings together. would plan on replacing them but at least then you could roll it around and probably drive it until your ready to replace them.
