PARK lock.. How does it work?
Can someone explain how the Park locking mechanism works.. so I can hopefully adjust my shifter to work in all positions properly. If I adjust cable so Ist gear works in its proper position, then I cant get Shifter outta PARK (even when pressing brake)! As it is now.. even most positions work (R and 1 need Shifter to be pulled back in order to engage those gears in AT.. AND SHIFTER WILL ONLY COME OUTTA PARK IF SHIFTER IS FIRST PUSHED FORWARD (CLICKS)!
Thanks..

Re: PARK lock.. How does it work?
It's pretty simple, there is a solenoid that when energized moves a part that allows the button to be pressed in to get the shifter out of park. (If you take the bezel off the shifter you can see it) I'd try cleaning the 19+ years of spilled soda, gunk, etc... out from under the console, clean the mechanism off and re-lube it, see if that helps.

Re: PARK lock.. How does it work?
Here's one of mine pulled out.
White: the rod of the solenoid that pulls the lever forward. Red: moves down with the thumb button on the shifter to shift. Is free to move down once the lever is pulled forward. Green: on '92 and '93 (I think) is where the shift lock button to top left of shifter presses to manually unlock shifter.

Re: PARK lock.. How does it work?
I know this is a little old but what purpose does the screw above it serve? (the one actually attached to the gear selector bezel that seems to push it down or the screw makes some sort of contact with it but there is no button? Was this just part of the production that were to be used but never utilized? Empty purpose?
