RHD to LHD Conversion

Sorry if a thread is posted somewhere, but I did a search and couldn't find anything. Has anyone done a RHD to LHD conversion? Is it even possible/ Approx costs/time assuming one has the obvious parts (a great condition, low mileage Japanese RHD, and a limping LHD). Any other comments, issues welcome. Thanks!

Re: RHD to LHD Conversion

You mean actually move the steering wheel and pedals to the other side of the car? The work would be massive. Other than the general nuts and bolts, I suspect the firewalls are different. Different holes for steering wheels, etc. Cutting out one firewall and welding in another is going to be a massive amount of work.

So off the top of my head:

-Swap subframes, and steering racks.
-Swap firewalls
-Brake booster/master cylinder
-A/C System (I bet the lines go through the opposite side)
-Entire dash, including interior A/C, heater core, etc.
-Move ECU to correct side (may require extending wire harness to fit, or swapping in LHD harness)
-steering columns
-Pedals
-Center console, shifter, etc
-Headlights
-Rear View mirrors
-Window controls on the doors (would also mean you get to change out those harnesses as well)
-Seats, if you want to retain the power drivers seat. Again this means swapping wire harnesses, and in this case pulling up the carpet to get at it.
-Trunk lever/Gas door, plus it's cables that run to the back of the car

Etc.

Basically you're rebuilding the car from the door handles forward.

I should add it's generally considered sacrilege to molest a JDM car like that. However, you could take what you need to repair the LHD car.
