Are prices turning around

Is this a good sign, $10,000 and climbing?

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-198760917.htm

Is it because under the new rules you can't bring in any more SVXs?

They are going up here, http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car...alcyone%20svx/ as well.

Re: Are prices turning around

A New Zealand dollar is only worth $0.53 US. $10,550.00 NZ is $5,600.00 US., a very good price for a car with so few miles. For the first one it's because of the mileage. 59,000 km (36,660 miles) is practically new.
The second one is low mileage also but in Japan they have strict recertification rules and it's expensive to meet the guidlines. That's why there are tons of low mileage JDM engines available for cheap, especially in the USA (west coast).

Re: Are prices turning around

Not entirely correct, you can't just look at the exchange rate and apply the price to your local market as a direct comparison. In the NZ market the average SVX price was down to about $3-4 K with some tidy cars down to $1500 (I have even seen a tidy Pearlie with nothing wrong with it go for $800!).
The 1st example is already in NZ and has been advertised several times with no takers and now out of the blue it is topping 10 grand.
The Japanese recertification process is well known down here and we take advantage of it, we take alot of their 2nd hand cars as NZ is also a RHD country (it only costs NZ$1700 for shipping) which has pushed car prices wayyyyyyy down.
I have been watching the 2nd site (a Japanese site) for a while now and have definatly seen an increase in the last six months or so in the asking price for SVXs (up to $14K US).

Re: Are prices turning around

Theres something a bit weird about that auction.
When that was listed it had a resrve of 5000 on it....
its up to 10,550.00 and hasnt met reserve on it.
I really would had liked that Green SVX only prob with it that it hasnt got the tan leather so is the base model one?

Hairy, "out of the blue" is right!

I watch tradecarview here from Ireland as well, I've imported a few of them. My perception is they are rising a bit in Japan because they are now getting scarce. At the same time they are still dropping here because they are unloved, they carry the costs of a high consumption vehicle here with all the penalties that attracts.

Hairy if you are doing price averages on the models on tradecarview there is one SVX you should leave out of the reckoning. It is stock # 652412, a '95 silver car. They are asking over $10K for this car, yet the pictures show it has been treated hard, dings all over. It has been on there for over two years. Nobody in their right mind would pay the asking price. Nobody has.

It would be interesting to know if he is friendly with the two bidders who pushed the price past $10K

That particular car is an S3 model. We regard S3s here as the poverty spec model. They don't attract high prices in Japan either, the interior is a big let-down.

In its defense that particular car looks very well cared for, with the bodywork in lovely condition. I suspect if you bought it at the right money you would have yourself a genuinely nice car.

What are the differences on the S3 compaired to the more fancy JDM?
Are CPU & TCU the same? ( are the base model a lil bit less powerful or detuned? like i know of some cars that the base model doesnt go as fast as the fancyer verson etc)
or is it just missing all the fancy stuff like non foldin mirrors leather seats etc...

Re: Are prices turning around

http://www.geocities.com/jamsvx/versions.html

Check the descriptions on the above link.

Essentially all versions have the same engine power right through the range. Don't believe what you hear otherwise.

JDM versions may have marginally higher HP numbers because they are tuned for 100 ron petrol, but that's all the difference there is between them.

In the case of the S3 it comes without LSD and the interior is rubbish, grey plastics, poor materials.

Recognising their mistakes with the S3, Subaru gave the S4 everything. A good S4 is a lovely car to have.

...........and don't I know it.

I found this site recently (below), it is probably a better indicator of Japanese prices.

http://jpctrade.com/auction/japanese...ldatabase.html

BTW the "SCORE" column represents the condition (5 being new) and R means it is an accident repair.

OK Marcus, rub it in, why don'tcha?

Yes, your car approaches SVX perfection, lucky dog.

Thanks for the link, that is truly excellent information.

Re: Are prices turning around

I just had a quick check on recent auction prices using your site. It looks like the Japanese are not able to shift cars either in the current climate.

The SVX Alcyone prices can not be used for comparison as the sample is too small for drawing valid assumptions.

However I had a look at the list for the early Nissan Skyline GTR [BNR 32] which is a car I fancy to get me one.

Looking primarily at excellent condition cars of 4.5 or more the drop in value is noticeable.

Going back to last October only, the auction starting price for these ranged in the 800,000 to 900,000 Yen range, with cars making 1,500,00 to 2 million Yen when the hammer came down.

Now come forward to the end of January and the starting prices are showing 500,000 to 600,000 range, with the final deals running 1 million Yen to 1.25m Yen This is a whopping drop in a few months in a rare car. The money is not out there. It would be a great time to buy.
