Smile Info required on the Headlight washer option

Hi guys, I'm from New Zealand and wonder if someone can show me how the headlight washer system is setup physically and electrically ?

I know that there must be another pump or washer bottle somewhere in the car, together button on dashboard, extra hoses and the outlet jets on the bumper.

We never got that option - but I have spare position on the dash to fit the switch, so wondered how hard it would be to fit.

Thanks

Steve in Auckland, NZ

Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

On the XT6, the headlight squirter shared the windshield washer tank, just a separate pump at the bottom for the headlight squirters.... The Headlight Squirters wasn't an option here in the USA so I'm not much help.....

Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

Huck,
thanks for the update, may take out the washer bottle later & see if there is a blank area that a second pump could fit into.

Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

Steve, I can confirm that there is an extra water bottle/reservoir that fits inside the inner wing, the pump is in this extra bottle. I have a complete spare set up from a Polish (European) car, jets, hoses, both bottles and dash switch.

Smile Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

Mal,

thanks for that info & photos, cannot wait till they get here - this will mean that I have all switch locations fully operational in the car.

The only outstanding question is - how is the second water tank located within the wing area - I presume it is in the wheel well, under the splash guard ?.

TIA

Steve

Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

You can see in the photos in the previous posts that there is a small tube with red clips - where does this go to ?

Both bottles have output hoses, the secondary bottle appears to have 3 hoses.
1 = input from other bottle, using gravity to feed from it.
2 = output to tee and then squirters
3 = ???

I remember seeing a breakdown (exploded drawing) showing all the parts, but I cannot seem to find it anywhere?

any help with drawing or info on the 3 hose?.

TIA

Steve in New Zealand

Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

Carl,

I have been to Subaru to look at their workshop manuals - since they do not show anything about the headlight washer system I take it to mean that no NZ new ones were supplied with that option.
(I also checked out the fog-light option - that was also missing, which is right as NZ did not get that option as an OEM).

I will wait till someone pulls one out of a car to let me know where the 3rd tube goes.

Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

Although the US didn't get the headlight option, the inner momentary switch on the right side of the dash, is the switch for the headlight washer but it doesn't have a symbol. I had inquired on the forum, years ago, bout installing the system and a member said he had instructions but I never pursued the idea. I'll check my threads to see if I can find his identity.

Re: Info required on the Headlight washer option

Not really worried as to where the interior switch is located, as in NZ we also did not get the wiring harness...there were 3 switch positions that are blank when it arrived in NZ, also the OEM switch mechanism has neither the contacts moulded into then, nor any lighting recess areas - I bought various switch assemblies from ebay to get 3 switches on each side - then moved either covers or wiring pins to match what main wiring harness mates within the cars original wiring loom.

The 3rd tube in the picture is actually just a vent, it needs to be placed next to the top bottle - sort of an overflow.

Thanks again.
