Lug pattern

Hunting for wheels as I'm on small stuff now (7x16, 42mm running 205/55). I planned to go 7.5x17, 55 (or close) 225/45.

I've found some sets that are reasonably close but what's up with the lug nut dimensions? Exactly what measure are they? The thickness? The lenght? The spacing between the nuts?

5x114.3 or 5x4.5 spacing 12x1.25 lugs 57.1 bore size

Good reference guide here:http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-r...aru&Models=SVX

Re: Lug pattern

Thanks, that will come in handy.

Is there any alloy except stock that fits perfectly? I just want 16" or 17" x7.5 with 55mm offset.. but it seems more or less impossible to find so small diameters with that offset.

Re: Lug pattern

I would think if you get a 5x114.5 wheel it should fit, you just need the correct offset.....dont quote me on that though XD

You mean the dimensions of the lug nut pattern? The 5x114.3 refers to the diameter of the bolt circle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_sizing#Bolt_circle

(It says the common measurement for Subaru is 5X100, but the SVX, Tribeca, and STi are among the exceptions and are 5x114.3.)

Something that does rarely come up is the actual size of the nuts themselves. Some rims have designs that limit the space around each actual lug nut, so very big lug nuts (or the wheel lock key) won't work. The stock SVX lug nuts tend not to work with aftermarket rims anyway, though, so just make sure that whatever rims you get you also get lug nuts that will work.

Re: Lug pattern

The STI BBS wheels are a perfect fit, 17x8 in the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. They come standard with 225/45/17 tires, but will accept 235 or 245 width just as well.

As mentioned, you'll need a set of 20 lug nuts in 12x1.25mm thread size, with the standard 60 degree cone. Tuner nuts are fine, but the ones with an internal hex socket should be avoided like the plague.

Re: Lug pattern

Great link, Icing.

Crazy, if it's 8 inches wide, what's the offset? It's the offset that has me worried a bit.

I know this is obviously controversial but there appears to be two camps when it comes to offset. Some say it doesn't matter as long as the wheel fits fine while others say it actually affects how the car drives. Remember, my daily drive includes a mountain pass with some extreme cornering, bad roads and high speeds

Anytime.

The STi BBSes are a perfect fit on the SVX. I have them on both my cars, and they are just right. There were some (in the US at least) that were 5x100 (2004 models only), and most were 5x114.3 (05-07). Double check that you get the right ones.

The "two camps" applies to other cars. The SVX, with it's rear wheel bearings issues, requires that you stay pretty close to stock. It's not so much an issue of how it will affect how it drives, but rather, how much stress is applied in what direction to the wheel bearing.

The offset of the BBS STi wheels from 2005-2007 is +53mm, which causes us no problems whatssoever

I'll try to find a set of silvers. Thanks.

On the other hand, it's 8 inches wide?

8 inches wide is great. The width and offset compensate for each other, so the wheel is centered the same on the hub. The hub diameter is also dead on, which is also great, since it makes them hubcentric. I have found that tire sizes for the 17x8s yield a great selection, as well. These are the lug nuts I am using for both: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006HOW9C

The BBSes are forged as well, so are very strong and lightweight. They feel noticeably light when you carry them around.

The tires I am using are "Hankook Ventus V12 evo"s in the size 225/45 - 17. They are summer tires, which I get to use year-round since I'm in Florida. 235 or 245 will extend out past the wheel just a tad on the sides to give a little protection from getting scratched on curbs and whatnot.

If you can't tell, I really like the BBSes. They are perfect size, lightweight, and not even very expensive, since it's easy to find them used for pretty cheap from some STi fool "upgrading" to some stupid-big, flashy wheels. The only wheels I like more on the SVX are the enkei shoguns, which are near impossible to find these days.

There are pictures in the photo album linked in my signature.

Your car is burgundy? Silver will look great.

Re: Lug pattern

Thanks a lot for the reassuring words!

Yes, the car is Bordeaux so silver looks great. Gold could pass but maybe a tad tacky for my tastebuds

I'll have to approach the local Impreza crowd and see if it's possible to find any. Not too many STi around here, they cost around a Porsche Boxster new.

Re: Lug pattern

Maybe a market difference but I can get a pair of Enkei STi (08 in Norway).

dimensions:

- 17x8
- 5x114.3
- ET53

Silvers. From pictures they look pretty much the same as the BBS?

Probably exactly the same dimensions = same effect / interchangable with the BBS STi?

Should be price be about the same or are the BBS more premium or ..?

Re: Lug pattern

I believe the difference is that they have a more flat face to the spokes, whereas the BBS STi wheels have more curvature. I personally prefer the BBS, but a number of people prefer the Enkei's. It's up to you. Functionally they're completely identical.

The Rx8 wheels are a good option if you can find a set at the right price. I've got a set going on my SVX with 245/35-18 Goodyears... Fit perfectly!!
