Belt/pulley problem

My a/c stopped the other say and today I noticed a judder in the steering.

Rather than being like this photo my belts were out of place.

When I popped the hood to tighten the belt I was surprised to see the a/c belt between the pulley and engine on the shaft. The alternator belt was two thirds over to where the a/c belt should be. The a/c belt was about to break so I cut it off and then put the alternator belt on the grooves closest to the engine and re-tensioned it. It seem like the pulley has slipped forward on it's shaft. and looks like it is not spinning true. Has a wobble..

What the heck would cause that? I assume there are no bearings on the main drive pulley.

Re: Belt/pulley problem

If you look at the pulley it is 3 parts, the inner metal core bolts to the crank, then there is a layer of rubber and the outer steel ring where the belts wrap. They tend to separate and act like yours.

Luckily it is the same pulley that is used on the EJ engines in Legacy's and Impreza's so it's fairly easy to come up with another.

Re: Belt/pulley problem

Another thing is the key might be damaged and that will cause the pulley to wobble as well.
