Those are probably bore sizes. Thickness is usually on the order of 1-2mm.

Where did you find those anyway?

Re: whats the differents between head gaskets

Cometic shows those sizes (Linky)

And yes, definitely bore sizes. Unless you've done something really nifty to your engine the 98 is what you want.

Re: whats the differents between head gaskets

Our stock head gaskets thickness is somewhere around .066", IIRC. You would not want to change that unless compensating for something else, such as an aggressive milling of the decks on the head/block. It is important to control the distance between the cams and crank, for timings sake.

Also, our stock bore is 98mm, give or take. You are definitely looking at bore sizes, as has already been stated.

Quick question, is that the price for both sides or only one side head gasket? I was under the impression they were a lot more expensive?

They are.

The Cometic price of $121.00 is for one gasket only. You need 2.

When I rebuilt the engine in my polo, the gaskets in 2009, they ere $165.00 each

Re: whats the differents between head gaskets

It should say SET ... If not I would think each. Back in the day 1964 ... I bought a rebuild gasket set for my 283 Chevy for $150.00. I got 50 +gaskets.. YEA those were the day my friend .

Re: whats the differents between head gaskets

The price has not really gone up on those. It's a chevy... The SVX is rare and parts are for the most part not being made anymore. I just helped a friend rebuild his 350 and it cost him $1300, including pistons, rods, crank, machine work, gaskets, heads, and a couple cans of paint.

Thanks for the clarification John. I'll just be using the OEM HG I have laying around for the pearl then. If that were the price for the set, it would be very tempting to spring for those for the added peace of mind.
