Imports

I know this has been asked before, and the SVX is unavailable to us as it was sold here but...

there are a lot of 300zx, RX7 & Skylines around that are definite imports so what exactly is the defining line to whats available?

Willing to adopt SVX looking for good home

Re: Imports

I think Ozbloke has a JDM.

I think you need some sort of compliance plates or something like that and it has to meet ADR

The JDM CXD model is the cream of the crop.

Re: Imports

There was a grey import program for a while. The program followed a rolling 15 years, so in theory, by 2006 the first of the SVX's would have been available under this program, but it was axed. That's how a lot of the cars you mention were brought in. The overarching approach to the import program was for cars not available in Australia...hence they are twin turbo variants of the cars we got. The SVX doesn't differ enough from the local option to justify it.

Unless you own the vehicle legitimately overseas for 12 months or more, you will not be able to import it.

There's at least one import that I know of (owned by E of this group with 4WS) and I came across another one a while back (had no sunroof etc.)

If you come across one that is an import (180km/h speedo is a dead giveaway), then unless it has a specific personal import plate (which is dead obvious) then stay away...it's most likely a dodgy.

Re: Imports

Matt - so is it possible to bring one in as a race car - need a CAMS licence and only restriction is it's unable to be road registered. Then.......

but if you have access to a non running parts car use the VIN and engine # and authorities non the wiser?

Re: Imports

Bruce,

Sadly, for a car to be imported for race uce only, it has to be (or have been) homologated by the FIA. No such option for the SVX.

Authorities will be the wiser if they do a decent identity inspection that would reveal bodginess!!

Remembering, if it's not brought in as I've detailed, the only other way is for it to have been cut in half...and that's no fun for anybody!

Rules...don't they just suck!

Re: Imports

Excellent memory AUSVX I do have a JDM.

I am unfamiliar with its' history having purchased it from a woman who had owned it for seven years.

Cheers
