Anzac

Over here we are five minutes into another special day.

We get into some great scraps on the sports field, but we are good mates when it comes down to what counts. Look out any bastard who thinks otherwise.

Let us remember them. Let us remember and hold onto the links they forged.

Sincerely, Trevor.

Yes, Trevor.

Rugby and other rivalries pale in comparison to the heroic undertaking of the joint forces.

Remembered.

Did my first ANZAC dawn service scince we arrived in NZ just on a year ago.

It was one of the most move remeberences I have attended, and that includes the Cenotaph in London.

For such a small town (by UK standards) I could not belive the turn out.
The Cenotaph in Masterton was floodlighted, and with the fog rolling through the trees and a lone piper, it was very emotional.

Well done NZ (and Oz) you guys could teach the Brits how our fallen should be remembered.

Alex

Anzac Day

The memory of all the brave Diggers and Kiwis is not forgotten here either . An appropriate sentiment I saw today captures the essence of their sacrifices :

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a 1,000 winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sun on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled light
I am the soft star that shines at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there; I did not die
(Anon)

If it wasn't for what they did in the past, it would not be the same today.

It has been my good fortune and great honor to work with, beside, have my @#$ saved by, and get stinking tanked with some of the finest warriors from New Zealand and Australia (Canada as well) these past few years. Here in Afghanistan we could not do the mission without them.

Although far more painful (morning after) than this tour in Afghanistan (so far), I had a blast at the last ANZAC remembrance / celebration I was invited to. Although truth be told- I don’t remember much of it after the first hour. . . .

Thanks guys- I for one and damn sure glad you are on our side!!!!!!!!!!!!!
