How is it that some of ye folk seem to know this number... "167th svx ever," "435th in 1994," etc.? I'd quite like to find out which mine is. Until then, I will call it the first. <nods>

AHEM... I, Lasher, have the 1st Subaru SVX EVER BUILT!!

VIN

The last five numbers are probably a good guess at your car's production number, but it doesn't always work like that. Remember the first production Baja in Indiana? The last five digits were something like 00058 (the representatives said that the other 57 were "pilot" vehicles). So the 100th production Baja will have a VIN ending in 00158, not 00100.

The Baja is run on the same line as all the other legacys. The vin on that would be in swquence with those cars as well... in theory anyway.

But you have to keep in mind that Legacy VIN's start off "4S3" and Baja VIN's start off "4S4"......so would they really be in sequence with each other?

I have an idea. Monday, at work, I'll run a VIN for a 95 SVX and use "00000" as the last digits and see what happens. I'll have to experiment a little with the "check" digit, but we'll see what happens.

good idea. But start with 1. I think that is the official start number. I'll be interested to see the results.

05214... does that sound right for a '92 manufactured in september of '91?? I figure it this way... 30,000+/- made over 6 years.. meaning about 5,000 per year... are my numbers right?

That sounds right for your car. Keep in mind that they made far more SVX's in 92 than any other year.

Good stuff!

Okay, heres' what I found.

VIN# JF1CX3354SH100001 is the start of the 95 MY and is currently owned by someone in Newton, PA. They own the first 95! It's an "L" model w/AWD and is Emerald Green (which I think should read "Polo Green").

VIN # JF1CX3352SH100002 is also an "L" model w/AWD, it's also Emerald Green, and it is also in PA! This one is in Newton.

Pretty cool, huh?

Now, as far as the earliest 92 model, the lowest VIN I could find was JF1CX3438NH100070, which is owned by a woman in Golden, Colorado. It was checked into the dealers inventory on 8/12/91 and sold a few months later. I'll try some more VIN's tomorrow.

In case you're curious.....
VIN JF1CX3535NH100090 is in Coppell, TX and
VIN JF1CX3534NH100100 is in Elkhart, IN. These 3 are the lowest VIN's I could get for the 92 MY.

Now, the computer won't show VIN's for cars NOT SOLD in the US, so it's possible that the gaps I've come across are because these cars went overseas. Also, it's time consuming to try all the different variables in the VIN, so that could be a problem too.

I'll keep trying!!

Dave
