Rusting On The Interior?

Hi!
looked under my seats over the weekend and found pretty nasty rusting around the seat mounting points and the front seat belt chassis mounting point. More sever on the driver side.

Anyone experienced same problem? Do our cars have a tendancy to leak from somewhere say the sunroof?

any advice is appreciated!

Re: Rusting On The Interior?

I have see this on many SVXs. When I want to remedy this, I remove the seats, scuff and use a POR-15-style primer/sealer paint pen on the seat tracks. I then scrub the carpet with Blue Coral upholstery cleaner, and reinstall the seat when both items are dry. Hope this helps

That's good to fix the symptoms...but not the cause.

Somewhere water is getting into the car. For me it was from the sunroof drains. Check that none of the hoses have pulled out. There's one on each side of the trunk and one behind each kick panel. You could also get water if any of the plastic plugs are missing from the frame rails under the car.

Finally, you get more water if it rusts right through the floor boards.

(speaking from experience)

It's the small panel by the driver's left foot right underneath the fuse box. You may have to dig through the wires to get back there but eventually you will find a smaller hose that (hopefully) feeds into a larger hose.

Re: Rusting On The Interior?

It would be prudent to check the hoses if you have a sunroof, but I can second the fact that wet carpet and the like can cause this. I have a similar rust issue that needs addressed and I have no sunroof and have seen no plugs missing while I've been under my SVX.

I did somewhat take that for granted, didn't I? Wet carpets whether from being around salt and snow, or having a larger problem, will cause this corrosion/rust.
