Question Tachometer gettin' lazy

I just noticed that the tach on my '92 with 170K is "running low". It gets off the peg, but 1500 RPM at 60 mph seems relaxing, but I'd say a tad off. So, what controls the tach? Cam sensor? Some other sensor? Probably some $200 part that requires the engine to be removed? Any hints appreciated. Ron.

There is a video on one of the other sites that shows you how to replace faulty electrolytic capacitors (2 I think).

Full SVX bra (only used for shows). Koni adjustable inserts fitted inside OEM strut body, Zoom lowering springs (2" lower), OEM headlight washers fitted.

So I just watched a YouTube capacitor replacement on a Toyota MR2 done by a smokin' hot chic named Sarah. I'd pay $200 just to watch her crawl around under the dash. But, seriously, this replacement process looks to a job for someone with patience, & a lot of dexterity, two attributes that have strangely left my body years ago. So, I either seek out a professional to break the instrument cluster into brittle pieces, or just live with it as is. The latter seems to be the sanest approach. Thanks, Surtees.

So you know, pulling the gauge cluster can be done in the comfort of the driver's seat. If I remember correctly, you start at the radio and work your way up and around the cluster removing trim. Pop clips and Phillips. Then a few more Phillips screws hold the cluster in. Once it can be tilted you can remove the harness connectors and slide it to the side, out from behind the steering wheel. It's not too bad of a process, and beats crawling around under the dash.

But after I've got the cluster out, and having lost half the screws, & broken a clip or two, we still have to un-solder two? tiny capacitor thingies from the back of the tach, then re-solder two new ones, hoping not to drop a solder gun on my lap . Oh, well - Guess I need a hot contortionist chic. Thanks anyway, Ron.
