Dan,

Yep. My thinking is that we'll leave it as an automatic to accommodate the variety of drivers (skill level) we might have. I know that the amount of life left in it is questionable. I'd like to solicit the community for a "fresher" 4HEAT that we could outfit with LAN's valve body and TCU. We'd also run the largest dedicated cooler we can mount.

Thoughts?

Hi Dan!

Still have your trailer and something to tow it with?

I believe you will be our "ringer" driver.

Special,

Probably the first thing will be to know where you're located. The logistics of this budding team are starting to hurt my head already.

Thanks.

Probably use up the front rotors and one or two sets of front pads. The tires will be good for one or two races, assuming you go the entire 24 hours. Remember we are talking about almost 2000 miles at speed.

In order to give the best chance of lasting the 24 hours, the vulnerable bits of the car should be new and the most durable available. These bits include belts, hoses and lines, especially that little coolant line under the intake manifold that split and fried my engine a few years ago.

In any event, if this goes and I'm invited, I can bankroll my share.
Dan,

Well said. My rough "mental plan" at this point is as follows:

1. Identify who is interested in participating
2. Identify the skill set each person brings and their level of commitment (i.e., how much time they'll actually be able to spend on this adventure)
3. Identify what will need to be done to the reX to make it durable/dependable for a 24 hour race (LeMONS) or less (CUMPCAR) and the cost associated with it.
4. Identify the availability and cost associated with the required safety equipment, as well as the labor/time required to get it all installed.
5. Develop a ROM cost estimate for single events based on an agreed up operational geographical area (i.e., we'll only compete at certain tracks)
6. Go after sponsors

Thoughts?

Dave,

Agreed. And this is where we'll need to make a team decision on how many events we actually want to participate in.

Re: East Coast-based 24 Hours of LeMONS/CHUMPCAR World Series SVX Race Team??

I still have a trailer, but there are limitations.
1. It is only 73-1/2" clear between the fenders. I don't know if the SVreX will fit. Even if it does, you will probably wnid up climbing out the window after you drive it on.
2. Although the trailer has a 6000 lb GVWR, my 6 cyl. Outback is only rated for 3000 lbs towing capacity. After all, my roadster weighed about 1000 lbs unoccupied. The trailer weights 850 lbs. How much does SVreX weigh?
3. The trailer is only 14' long. It is only 13'-1" from the back of the fuel jug rack to the end of the beavertail.

Might make sense for me to lend the trailer to the cause if someone else has a more robust tow vehicle. My trailer has a standard 6 pin plug with electric brakes.

I think we are going to want a little bit more reasonable footwear on the beast. Looking a a minimum of 200 UTQG, the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec compares very favorably on Tirerack, in both wet and dry performance, with the Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 and the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, both of which are known as very good street/track compromises with wear ratings of 180. The Dunlop is also significantly less expensive going for $185 each in the 245/40-17 size.

Dan,

I thought I'd read somewhere recently that Hankook was bumping up the UTQG on their R-S3 tire from 140 to 200. One of my earlier posts in this thread called out the tire wear requirements for each series. The driving requirement is that the UTQG has to be 200 or higher. I've got to check if tires are included under the "safety" heading, as you will easily hit the $500 limit on tires alone.

Ouch. I can't imagine that tires count in the $500. The Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 has a 280 wear rating, and it is only $114 at that size, but the ratings are really bad. What is the size of the existing wheels on the reX?

It has stock rims on it. I have a set of 17" Mustang Cobra rims with 295s on them and a set of 16" RX-7 rims and a set of .... you get the picture

Re: East Coast-based 24 Hours of LeMONS/CHUMPCAR World Series SVX Race Team??

Are the 17" Mustang rims the right bolt pattern and offset? What width are they? With 295's, I would think you would want a minimum of a 9" width, and maybe 10". Otherwise, you get weird bowing of the tread, which might not hold up very well over 24 hours.

I have been very pleased with how my 245-40/17's worked on my 17x8 rims. No rubbing, reasonable wear pattern and great road holding. Also, the speedo is pretty accurate as teh diameter is almost the same as the stock 225-50/16's.
