Timing belt pulley?
This post is just for an off-chance that someone can give me a clue as to what might be the problem. 92 SVX with 118,000. Started it to leave work tonight and when put it into gear all warning lights came on. When I drove it 5 feet to see if lights would go off, they didn't, and I heard a thunk, thunk, thunk. Back in neutral the lights went off, put in reverse, lights on and thunking again. 60 days ago it got a new timing belt, pulley bearing (?), water pump (valve cover gaskets, short in taillight fixed, etc). Too dark to see anything but no shredded rubber from belt or anything. Is it possible the pulley is loose? But the thunking??? I'll be going back tomorrow in the daylight but I'm not any kind of mechanic and it would be nice to have some idea. Thanks!

Re: Timing belt pulley?
Your crank pulley may have seperated and threw the alternator belt. The pulley is a two piece design and fail with age. Most people replace it with a light weight aftermarket one.

Re: Timing belt pulley?
if the crank pulley wasn't secured properly while loosening the crank nut, that could've put a lot of pressure on it. The bond between the rubber and steel may have come loose. Assuming that your issue is a crank pulley of course!
