Shopping for a CPO/ New Car. Opinions, etc...

So, I no longer have the space to work on my own car, and the SVX is enough of a project for now. I don't have the time or desire to work on the vehicle I rely on day to day (My Legacy wagon.) It is showing its age and frankly I'd like to get into something a bit smaller and more reliable as my daily driver, not to mention a bit zippier and generally better looking. I dont really need to haul anything around in it. MOST of all, I NEED A WARRANTY and LOW PAYMENTS. Well under $20,000. I am of course, spoiled by the gadgets in the SVX and now NEED this car to have a sunroof, power equipment, but a MANUAL transmission

It has been suggested to me that I should look into a Scion tC, but Im not really drawn to it at all. Too "boy-racer" and "girl in high school who's parents bought it for her"

I have little affection for anything else Toyota.

Hondas are Hondas, nuff said. I could use the practicality of an Element, but I dont really want to drive a lunchbox for the next few years.

No interest in Nissan. The products generally seem cheaply made with a sticker price that says otherwise.

The euros (saab, vw, audi, bmw, mercedes, etc) mostly seem a bit out of budget as far as maintenence and upkeep is concerned, plus I park it on the street in an urban area ( I parallel park everyday at least twice a day)

And Subaru.

Is out of budget. I dont have interest in owning a new/er Impreza or Forester, and a Legacy is a bit out of budget with a sunroof.

I went to the Mini dealer today and went on a couple test drives. I can get a low mileage unit with under 30k miles and factory warranty and complimentary maintenence remaining, and be well within budget. All the fun I want too, and Id still keep the SVX.

What do you think? Do it?

You pretty much elimanted everything else. VW needs to import Seat's, but it will steal Golf/Rabbit sales. 2002 WRX's aren't under $20k?

No interest in Imprezas. I was close to buying a stripped 06 wagon last year but glad I didnt. I need a warranty. I dont want the maintenence issues with a turbo car. Its going to be in the city and commuting all of the time.

I may look into a GTi, but they seem priced a bit high.

Mike what about an older STS with the North Star engine black on black would look good, or a supercharged Buick Riviera? These are GM products but fun to drive and mostly are adult driven so the engines are less likely to be host on and the late 90’s should not bring to much out of your pocket.

changing the boost fluid does get tiresome. i'm sick of adjusting intercooler tension as well.

when i see Mini's, i can't help but think "clown car". they do handle great and are fun to drive from what i hear, but i just couldn't own one.

my dad loves them, though.

what about the SRT-4? if you have scheduled turbo maintenance ( ), you can just use it to open a wormhole to warp back in time in it to when it was brand new.

Again, Id rather walk than drive a Neon. I don't want the insurance costs of a ricer anyway. The Mini feels solid on the road. We shall see what happens over the next few weeks.

I got a quote for full coverage with $100 ded comprehensive and $500 collision, and my insurance will actually stay the same, as long as I sell the Legacy and finally take the Explorer off.

Fuel economy is the BIG problem there, along with the lack of warranty, manueverability, safety, reliability.........
