Unhappy Ugh...this might break my heart.





I don't know a lot about our front sway bars. Can anybody tell me how screwed I am?

It is hard to tell from your pictures.
Is the metal where the anti-sway bar bushing clamps to, ripped loose?

Yep

It completely separated from the subframe. I would have gotten better pictures but I laid in a pile of ants and didn't have much time to snap these two.

What kind of luck is that.......

Take it to a qualified welder and have him reweld and plate it.
Or you can bring it here.

I'd love to bring it out to you. It'd make up for me somehow completely missing you guys while you were in town.

But I'm pretty sure just about everything is out of my price range right now.

Make sure that you wash away ALL of the engine oil, ATF, and power steering oil on the engine, frame rails, lower control arms etc.
We don't want any oil fires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
A car wash and dish detergent work wonders!

Has a welder?
In the mean time its going to make some bad clanking noises and will not handle as well.
Can someone from the Air Force base weld it for cheap?

I know Shaun used to work at a place with a nice welder, but that was awhile back and he doesn't work there anymore.

I know a few people I can go talk to, but right now I don't drive the car enough to be too worried about getting it fixed right away.

I was mostly just really sad that the ebony gives me so many problems.


Edit: to make things worse, I found this after I spent the entire morning making a nice battery tie down by hand and a new license plate bracket. I also had just cleaned the inside.

Holy smokes. Hate to say it, but if that thing really just tore right out of the frame rail, I'd be worried about the integrity of the frame. Did you hit something? Has this car ever been in a collision? Got lots of undercarriage rust?

The exact same thing happened to our Justy a few years ago. I drove it like that for a few months before I figured out what the loud clanking noise was. I don't know what caused it, but I suspect a combination of bumpy roads, hard driving and weak springs and shocks.

I had it welded and it was fine for a while, but it broke again a couple of years later.

I don't notice a change in handling under normal conditions, but I took mine out, trying to figure the noises from my front end.
It's all quite now, but that is because I got "new" struts put in.
So maybe this weekend I can put the bar back in place, but it drives fine for me without it.
