Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Sounds just like mine that had a spun rod bearing right before it blew up.

Sorry, don't mean to scare you.

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Sounds like mine like almost all the time. Normally I just add oil and it stops.

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Make sure your power steering pump is full of fluid. If you have a leak and it is dry it can make an extremely similar noise.

Hopefully it is not a bearing... good luck.

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Kieth,
Yes it is quieter. My buddy mike (audi guy) says it sounds like a lifter as well. If only I knew wtf that was exactly!! lol
(though now that my dad heard it, he doesn't think it is a lifter at all. Though it is an engine noise... hope i can get it resolved soon)

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

What octane fuel are you running and when was your last oil change? What weight/brand oil. As of now I see Seafoam in your future

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Kinda scaring me a bit lol!
My last oil change was <1500 miles ago with a 5w30... quaker state? ...high milage half synth (to see if it smoked at start up still, otherwise its full synth) and I uses 91 premuim at QuickTrip only! What is Seafoam? Is it expensive? (edit: looked up seafoam video http://video..com/videoplay?docid=6187290865726229173# and I gotta say aside from the smoking it looks pretty solid)

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

5w30 is probably your problem. Should look in a recent oil weight thread wherethe best suggestions for oil in our car were made.

Also, I used seafoam in my car and nevr listened for the knocking or if it went away after that. It may have.

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Hey I know the weight differences and what they are good for, but i changed the oil twice in less than a month because i did the first one and then had to replace the valve cover seals along with oil again. It was still cold cold when I put the oil in, and it got to -11 in MO this winter. with a **** ton of snow too lol. pic as proof:

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

No change between gears or directions. Only when warmed up does it stop.
LetitSnow - What was wrong with the engine you recently pulled? Im looking for that sort of speculation here.

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

Sounds like mine does right now, except louder. When you start it from cold (overnight type thing) does it make a horrendous racket for a half second or so? If you have the tools and know-how, drain the oil and look at it. If it's a silvery metallic colour then you're definitely in the same boat as me, which is that you've lost a bearing in one of your connecting rods. The simple fix is a new engine.

Re: Need help! I have a knocking sound!!!!!!!

I didn't crack the engine open to see what was the problem, partly because of time, but mostly because it sounded a lot like what I've come to know as rod knock.
